no it isn't cheap. 5 mile taxi ride home on Friday night costs me £10 - £12. If I ring someone up and pre-book it can be about £8.

Try find a taxi service that charges for one-way only. You'll find that most charge for; to the destination, and also their return trip.

The reason I always try and sort lifts out, and indeed when evenings are clement would rather spend an hour walking home from town or wherever I am than pay £14 to get a 4 minute taxi home. I'm prudent because that is the way I have been brought up to be and I deem VFM with a taxi ride abysmal. Frankly it's a con.

They moan it isn't well paid lol. Well someone is creaming a fantastic amount of money as the fuel must cost them about £1.50 tops and even taking into account wear and tear it's £2. Who is creaming the other £12 for less than 10 minutes work...

The last taxi ride was £14.20. The guy was shocked when I was still stood there expecting my 80p change? Tip? Stop charging so much you greedy .

Don't the council set the rates?

I think we have the one of the most expensive taxi rates outside London.

I went for some beers last month with a good mate of mine, he lives 0.3 of a mile further away from the pub we were in but in the opposite direction. His house is in a bit of a crappy mainly council house area, mine is in a quiet area where everything is privately owned and much better off, My Taxi £8.30 his £4.40.

Cheapest ever must be near Stranraer, £8.00 to do a 9 mile drop off at 1 am, any bloke willing to do that with 4 pissed fat men carrying kebabs deserves double hehe

I got a taxi once by myself and was rather drunk (Ok I couldn't even string a sentence together), taxi driver must've noticed this and we went about 1 mile (One road), he wanted £15.

What happened in the end? Take it, you didn't pay £15?! We need closure...;)

From one village to another. Country lanes to take up time and to decimate fuel consumption. He had to get to your house, then on to your destination? How long did the latter take? And then he had to drive back.

Best part of an hour all in? Plus fuel and taxi insurance and maintenance and radio hire?

All for £28. (and thankfully you didn't run away when it came time to pay or spray your stomach lining around the interior)

I wouldn't work for that little.

It cost me about £25 from central London to W3 after midnight. Probably only around 6 miles at a guess. After a heavy night out I would gladly pay it though.
