What stops you from having a motorbike?

With ever increasing fuel prices, VED and congestion so bad it makes you want to soil yourself in anger, I was wondering why more people don't look at 'the dangerous alternative' to car travel?

I would tip myself off one. Or someone like me would come along and tip myself off one. Having seen the injury list of the guy I hit, not to mention the number of friends I have with bits of metal for a skeleton, I just don't have enough trust for one.

I'm sure I'd love it but as I get older I only ever get more sensible, not less.

I've always wanted a bike, super car performance for £3,ooo to £4,000

But out of all the bikers I know/have known, 99% of there accidents/deaths have been caused by car drivers not seeing them.

Add to that my lack of self control with the throttle I think there best left alone as far as I'm concerned

I use a bicycle for commuting but I'm at the maximum distance I'd want to do every day, so if the work-home distance should ever get longer I'm going to find it extremely difficult not to get a supermoto!

Doctor friend of mine works in A&E. They generally refer to bikers as 'donors'. Thats pretty much what puts me off.

I have one, love it, will probably give it up this year and buy a motocross bike instead though.

Twice the thrills with no lorry to run over your head.

Road riding is getting too dangerous. With the increasing amount of idiots on the road, coupled with the poor road surface and the constant risk of losing your licence I just don't enjoy it any more.

That seems quite unlikely. I'm not saying you're telling porkies but perhaps your motorcycling friends weren't being particularly honest about the circumstances of their incidents

My parents.

My dad has false front teeth, a plate in his leg, a rebuilt knee and half the skin on his ass is from his thigh. That's enough to put me off.

Couple that with the high number of goons on the roads in cars not paying a blind bit of attention too...

And the fact that everyone knows at least one biker who has come a cropper and has a sobering story to tell...

Uncle seriously injured, cousin died, friend of my cousin in trouble, various friends damaged, wounded, hurt, legalised...whatever!

I'm considering a job move to a company the other side of the city. I was toying with the idea of getting a commuter bike like a 125cc. Ok I realise it's not very PH but as much as I'd love a sports bike I know that it'll end in tears. A bike, purely for commuting would be ideal, especially if it isn't fast enough to interest me at the weekend.

I did my cbt on a geared 125 with the intention of going on to full access, i didnt like it too much, im too malcordinated and think i will fall off

Nah, not for me, not on the road.

I once saw a car/bike accident. It wasn't even high speeds, it was in traffic and the sort of bump that would have involved both cars pulling over to look at dented corners and broken lights.

But the guy on the bike just looked like a rag doll on impact and didn't get up. When you actually see what happens when 1.5tons of rolling metal hits a bike... well, it just put me off the whole idea for good.
And it was not the bikers fault, nothing he could do about it - that's the bit that really scared me.

It did cross my mind to get one for my 65 th birthday and
then rely on one of the local idiots to kill me with their
car.
