I've been looking for a cheap mirror for the OH's Honda for a while (I'm not paying the £150 that Honda want for it) and, annoyingly, it looks like the one I've found is black:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-JAZZ-OSF-ELECTRIC-MIRR...

I've seen another that's pink:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

However, our car is silver (grey if you want to nit-pick) and the mirror ideally wants to be the same colour - how much, in time and hassle would it be, roughly, if I bought either, to get it (re)sprayed silver?

I'm sure my grammar is lacking here and for that, I apologise

As Tonker says, you could try yourself. Spraying (particularly where small items are concerned) isn't always the dark art it's made out to be. Diligent use of fine wet & dry between coats can produce a very respectable finish, even with aerosols; although it does require patience.

Last time I did any, I got Halfords to mix the correct colour. I was a bit dubious as to how close a match it would be and whether it could be applied easily but to my surprise the colour match was perfect and the can had a needle-type nozzle that didn't splatter at all.

Failing that, I'd say £50 to get a pro to do it.

Thanks - I might just - I'm just not sure how I'd prep the surface and whether I should take it apart first

You'll have to use wayback as the site seems to have disappeared, but there's some useful tips here:

Probably easier to download the manual as a pdf and read the parts that are relevant.

Thanks, I'll try that at home as that particular site is work-blocked....

A colleague of mine had a mirror back cover resprayed locally and it was only about £25 cash. They did a good job too. At that price not worth hassle doing it yourself.

It's worth giving http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/ and http://www.breakeryard.com/ a try if you haven't already to see if you can get one in the right colour.

I've tried those sort of sites and they work out not much cheaper than a dealer frown

i've just 'won' the black ebay one for 32 odd quid smile

Just the respray job to do now - as for fitting, the Jazz is due a recall for the mirror switch which will (I think) mean the door card being taken off so I might cheekily ask then to fit the mirror at the same time.

......for which they'll charge you an arm and a leg.

Do it yourself, it isn't hard.

Read up about painting before you have a go. There are things you should know...

Let me know when you start, I'll alert the ambiwlans service...smile

You might be able to order just the body coloured housing from Honda, which is what I did at a cost of about £30 for a Mazda 6

I think they come pre-coloured, but I'll ask.

Yeah. Try airfix. A wide range of colours. You'll get one close enough.
