KITT Is UK's Favourite TV Car

Knight Rider Trans Am tops list of TV star cars

KITT in the glory days with The Hoff
A survey has revealed that KITT, the Pontiac Trans Am from 1980s TV series Knight Rider, is Britain's favourite TV car.

Despite having been away from British TV screens (aside from innumerable repeats) since 1986, almost a fifth of the British public still want to own KITT more than any other TV star car.

KITT tops the viewing public heart's podium, with Morse's Jaguar Mk II taking the runner-up spot and the Ferrari Testarossa from Miami Vice in third.

Other highlights in the top 10 include Gene Hunts Audi Quattro from Ashes to Ashes and the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard. The A Team GMC van rounds off the top 10, flying the flag for the commercial vehicle sector, while the Batmobile and Lady Penelope's Rolls-Royce fly the fantasy flag.

...and its latest starring role
...and its latest starring role
The survey of 2000 people was commissioned by garage chain Kwik-Fit to find the most appealing car for their latest TV ad, and KITT made his return to British TV screens last Monday.

The full top 10 list is revealed in all its glory below. Question is: what's conspicuous by its absence? We reckon Columbo's Peugeot convertible is notable for its absence, as is Del Boy's Reliant Robin...

THE TOP TEN FAVOURITE TV CARS
KITT from Knight Rider - 18.4%
Inspector Morse's Jaguar Mk II - 16.1%
Ferrari Testarossa from Miami Vice - 8.2%
Magnum PI's Ferrari 308 -5.0%
The Batmobile - 4.5%
Gene Hunt's Audi Quattro in Ashes to Ashes - 4.4%
FAB1, Lady Penelope's Rolls Royce from Thunderbirds - 2.7%
General Lee (Dodge Charger) from Dukes of Hazzard - 2.4%
The Saint's Volvo P1800 - 2.1%
The A Team's GMC Vandura van - 2.0%

I had my picture taken (Polaroid) in KITT at a local shopping centre when I was about 8 biggrin

If you have an iPhone, get the iKITT app too, it's a complete waste of 60p a bit of fun.

Disgusted that the General Lee finished so low. Mystified that Morse's Jag finished so high.

And where is the Fall Guy's truck (GMC?)?

+1. Fabulous car but I am surprised that it was so highly rated.

What about Ecto 1? Or Jack Bauer's Hyundai Genesis Coupe on Sunday's 24? wink

That's like asking why more people want to "sleep" with Kelly Brooke than Margaret Thatcher.

General Lee should definately be higher.

What about the Ian Ogilvy Saint Jaguar XJS?

Out of all of those I'd rather have Robin Masters' Ferrari 308 GTS from Magnum PI.

Where are today's star cars, do they exist? The newest car on that list must be at least 25 years old.

Sadly, a TV show where a car has a major starring role just isn't PC these days.

Very sad, isn't it?

my top three are in the top ten - 308, Quattro, Vandura not in any order though.

but what about nash bridges' 'cuda or the csi hummers or starsky & hutch's gran torino or the avenger's triumph's jag's porshce's lotus' even rollers or for a bit of fun the munsters' family hot rod.

can we not include any bond car on the list as it feels like they've been on TV enough to qualify as im sure any would make the list with a rather nice db5 topping the charts
