Hoping that someone can help, we are in the Burnley area of East Lancs, and in 2 weeks time we are heading down to Weston Super Mere to be at the Flight Sim Convention, as we are taking a full computer system, and all my jewellery stall stuff, we desperately need to get hold of a roof box for the car.

We can't justify buying one, just to use it for that weekend and a friend did lend us one, but it won't fit on our roof bars.

Does anyone know anywhere in this area that 'rents' them out, we have heard of places, we just don't know if there is one round here, and google doesn't seem to be helping, is it's any help, we have an 07 Vectra, and it has the Halfords Advnaced roof bars on it.

Here's hoping someone can point us in the right direction as we only have 2 weeks to get something sorted.

Thanks

They crop up on fleabay a lot - but make sure it's close enough that you can see it before bidding or cheap enough that you're preapred to buy twice. Look carefully at the mounting points and hinges, that's where most fail.

That said, if you've already got the roof bars you can get a decent sized new one off of Amazon for about £90 and once you've got one you may be surprised how often you use it.

Or a smaller one for £65:

We have been looking on fleabay, but they are always too far away, and at the moment, we cannot envisage needing one again, heck this is the first time we have ever needed one and we usually fill the car with stuff! This time it's just the combined 3 monitor and other stuff computer set up as well as all the jewellery and the table, the computer stuff doesn't normally travel with us, and as it's an overnighter, we also have clothes, kids etc

Would you consider buying one then selling afterwards?

I think I got a box and roof bars from ebay brand new for about £170.

^^^^^

You've already got the roof bars - I bet if you buy the £90 one you'll get over £50 back and that'll be cheaper than hiring one (IIRC the trouble with hiring them is that there is normally a minimum period of at least a week so they sting you for more then £50).

...and I still reckon that if you need it once you'll need it again...

Changed the wording on my search and have managed to find a couple of places, so he is investigating them now, seems that 3 days in the minimum, which is fine by us as we will need to pick it up and fit it on the Friday, and we won't be back till late Sunday night, so will be ready to give back on the Monday.

All this palavar for one flipping weekend!

Do you already have the bars? Or did you mean roof rails that run along the roof fron to back either side?

buy off flea bay and sell again on flea bay you will no doubt get your money back or at least cost less than a hire.
