Jaguar XKR or TVR Sagaris?

I've been lurking in both the Jag and TVR halls for a while and thought I'd just chuck this out for general opinion.

So...With a go ahead from the domestic banker, I am now clear to get myself a weekender. After lots of deliberation I am now tied to a 2007 XKR Convertible or a TVR Sagaris, both very different beasts and both stunner's IMO!

For me, the Jag has that bit of luxury and class whilst still having the power, not to mention the small fact of driver aids! But.....They depreciate like nobody's business.

The TVR though is something a bit special, only a few out there and mind numbingly fast with the added option of biting back if miss-treated! Cost £50K new yet still fetching almost £40K 5 yrs later!

I know this is clearly subjective, but it would still be interesting to see what others think.

Havent owned either but if i had a daily it would be the tiv without any shadow of doubt in the universe. It is just the most awesome piece of kit and other than running costs wont cost you anything long term as you will probably be able to sell for near as damn what you buy it. (good selling point with bank manager)

Also bear in mind all the rules the stupid eu and co are bringing in meaning cars like the tiv are numbered.

It can ONLY appreciate in value.

Jag is beautiful, but more of a day to day than a weekend car in my opinion

I wouldn't say the Sag is 'mind numbingly fast', unless the chap that took me for a blast in one a while ago wasn't flooring it.

My choice between the two would be the TVR every time To be honest though, if it were my money I'd be looking at a Caterham and some change, or a 2-11.

If you have a decent enough budget to consider a Sag then speak to Jason at STR8SIX. His cars come with decent warranties on the engines and previous posters on the same subject in the TVR section have been very pleased with the spec of car their budget can achieve.

Sorry, I'm sure there must be a question in there somewhere, but you appear to be asking who you should by a TVR Sagaris from as far as I can tell.



Ok, being a bit more rational, I've been in a Sag a couple of times, and it is awesome. I mean, whilst it doesn't have a V8, it sounds good, but my word the thing shifts, and the grip is quite incredible given how fast it is shifting.

Compare the sheer delight of starting and driving in a Sagaris with the "oh ok, it's just a Jag though"..............

If anything the person who drove you in it wasnt capable of driving it mind numbingly fast, unless you are a driving hero driving a 400hp tiv to even 50% of its capabilities on the road is going to be a hard task. If you look at the figures for this car you can see its up there with the rest. I can only think of 1 car which has the same performance figures for comparative costs (R35 GTR).

Head says XKR for everyday, however the sag takes it. Awsome looking machine (Except the glass bathroom shelf on the back)

and how many tvr's have you owned?

If you have owned one then you can say that but if not, your just jumping on the bandwagon. near 10 years of good driving and has only gone wrong once. Better than most new cars.

This is true. As a daily drive I'd probably go for the Jag. As a toy the TVR. Though as I don't drive that far maybe not!

400bhp per tonne not fast enough for you? So i assume you drive a veyron or something then?

I didn't say that, I just said that it didn't feel 'mind numbingly fast'. The Sag is one of my dream cars, but the straight line punch was hardly eye widening. The Sag's a great car, but to put my comment in perspective, I've driven a Noble M400 and been in a number of quick Caterhams, and I wouldn't describe them as 'mind numbing' either.

Besides, regarding your Veyron comment, how does the car that I drive change my opinion of what feels fast? Schumacher drove a beaten up old Escort until he joined Benetton! :-) Personally, I'm more into feel, feedback, agility and handling, ergo a Veyron is the last road car I'd choose given a limitless budget.

In asnwer to the OP, which ever fits you best. You certainly won't lose money on a Sagaris, and it is a real event every time you see one. It can be an every day car... but most don't want it to be.

Which ever you do chose, enjoy it.

From a great percentage of the posts I would say that the majority seem to think the tiv is the way forward.

Just to add some more detail to the melting pot. I do have access to another car ( S-Max, he, he, that'll cause some furrowed brows!) S whatever I get will be garaged and brought out for weekend jollys, but it will probably also be used a few times a week for getting into work, so were not talking 100miles a month sort of thing, it will actually be used a bit.
I will admit now that I do enjoy the limelight and I would imagine the Sag would attract a lot more attention than the XK. I'm also keen to start going to some meets, being an ex biker, we were out every week. I want that again but with a car, so I would imagine that would be better with the Sag too.

Well..... Guess that's about it then, I'm off to have a go in some!
