Give way to traffic approaching from the right. Its a simple rule and if we all do this it makes life easier and no one is sat there waiting for some dithering old fool to get his head round this concept.

Also indicate sometimes as well. I do like the "which way are you going" game but not all the time.

Thanks

Also, if your exit is blocked, try and leave a gap for cars to get out of their exit, instead of blocking the whole roundabout.

Drivers joining the southbound M6 at J23 (Haydock), this means you. Ruddy idiots.

Do you mean from the A49?

There are big "KEEP CLEAR" markings on the road but it doesn't help matters frown

I approach on the A580 heading west, and have to go all the way around the roundabout to take the A49 north.

Traffic entering the M6 Southbound often blocks the exit, as the slip road is currently down to one lane due to the never ending roadworks.

There's a mini-roundabout near the entrance to my estate. You wouldn't believe the numbers of people who ignore the priority. There's been several prangs. Absolute fknuts.

There there's the fkers who don't indicate at the local Sainsburys entrance. They might be turning into Sainsburys (in which case you can pull out) or they might be going straight on (in which case you cannot pull out) and there's no way to tell. fker after fker turns into the store but you're left waiting because if you did just pull out there would be a prang.

I loathe non-indicators with a vengeance. Their absent mindedness causes delay for everyone around them. It's so rude.

The junction of Guildford Park Rd/Farnham Rd in Guildford is a nightmare like this. They have resurfaced the road and roundabout recently and put the "Keep Clear" markings in completely the wrong place, not that they were noticed beforehand.

I am waiting to turn right and can see traffic stopping to the left, have my indicator on and people STILL stop blocking my path. I have now taken to beeping to alert people who I know won't leave a gap, or pulling slightly forward to make my presence obvious.

+1

They probably don't indicate because they aren't paying full attention to the job of driving, or they are selfish and couldn't care less about anyone else on the road.

You can't really trust the people who indicate though. All it means is that you don't feel so bad if you pull out in front of them and it turns out they were indicating incorrectly.

Aye. I like to see the tyres twitch in the direction the indicators are showing before relying on them.

Small roundabout - three entry points. Three cars arrive at the roundabout at the same time...
Oh dear - they will all be sat there, waiting, FOREVER!

It would be far easier just to change the Highway Code to say something like:

"When approaching a roundabout, stare straight ahead and ALWAYS stop BEFORE finally looking around for any vehicles which might look as though they are going to enter the roundabout sometime in the next 5 minutes. If you see anyone, you MUST WAIT until ALL exits are completely clear, at which point you MAY enter the roundabout IF you can pluck up the confidence, but on no account use your indicators as it may confuse other road-users. REMEMBER - roundabouts are there to cause inconvenience and confusion, NOT to aid traffic flow.

At the same time, we could also update another guideline to:

"MANOEUVRE (erratically), SIGNAL (optional), MIRROR (if you know what one is)"

..... and to the town planners:

We are not all morons! Please remove traffic lights from roundabouts. They should never share tarmac

My Dad had a accident like that - the car started to turn, then the lady driver remembered that instread of going home, she had to drop her friend off first so resumed on the major road. Fortunately she's slowed enough to make the turn so the impact wasn't very severe - at normal speed into the side and he may well have been killed.

She denied that's what happened and my Dad had witnesses but it still went down as 100% his fault.

Wow. That's fairly unjust. In town traffic it's common to have to rely on a combination of the indicator going and the driver starting the manouvre otherwise you'd never get to pull out.

I'm stunned she could get away with that.

What is it with people looking directly at you and then from a stand still just pulling out - fookin drives me mad.

I just go around them now, even if there is no space and I just close the door on them - they'll find their brakes somehow!

We have a number of mini roundabouts in my town and some drivers dont appear to have a clue as to who has right of way. But interestingly who has legally the right of way if say 3 cars appear at a 3 exit mini all at the same time. In my town all 3 drivers would be there all night.frown

we've just had a new one built at a notourious junction. People honestly have no idea. Some stop completely, some ignore the markings and carry on as if it were the old junction. Oh well, c'est la vie
