Currently for my work car use a 2001 Saab 9-5 2.3 SE. 125k, but everything works well and expecting* no dramas at MOT time.
I keep looking at Renault Vel Satis 3.0 dci. It's getting an Itch so bad that I am thinking of scratching it. I've had various experiences with French, and particularly Renault and I should no better... But still...
Does any PH have actual experience of this car? Please save me!

you need help man, however when i had my dream car in mind, i went for it
The problem with the S-line Audi is that I can't help but think they're for frustrated middle-managers in large multinational organisations desperate to impress, pretending they earn more than they actually do. The S-line is for those who wanted the RS model but couldn't afford it. But hey, keep dreaming I suppose...I bought one last week

Having a rather prolific car-ownership history, it's rare these days that I actually feel 'rather chuffed' with a purchase. In fact, most of the time, it's rather a 'meh' feeling. But today, I'm proper chuffed
As well as my passion for V8s, I'm rather partial to les grandes voitures françaises and I grabbed this wonderful thing last night.
It's a 3.0 V6 diesel Vel Satis Privilege and it's absolutely mint. Despite being almost eight years old, the interior and exterior are utterly unmarked, it has only got 60k on the clock, and all the signs of having led a pampered life are there: still has all three credit card 'keys', all matching Michelin tyres, FSH etc. Has a glorious sound system too.
And to complement the 'proper chuffedness', it only cost £2,500. Now that's a bargain barge!

It's very nice.
If you want me to be uber-critical, I don't like that when stopped in traffic or at lights, after 5 seconds it disengages the 'box, effectively puts it in neutral, and there's a bit of a 'clonk' as it re-engages.
Apart from that it's fantastic. Very quiet when on the move, i.e. it's only a diesel when it's stationary, and has a nice V6 tone when pushed on.
Can't wait to scoff a thousand miles or so of Europe in it.

I just bought a 3.5 v6 Vel Satis - just over 51k miles with fsh. All bills and handbooks with car including original bill of sale etc. £35k new in Dec 2002....I paid just under £2k for it two weeks ago... so far it goes very well, is supremely comfortable and looks brilliant. A scuff or two that dentmaster can sort out but thats it. Interior mint.
I did not used to like them, but now love it. Looked at Avantime but SWMBO and kids found 'flat floor' in back uncomfortable. Also, I love Jap engines/reliability. Already on the upgrade tree with some nismo goodies arriving soon (its the 3.5 nissan unit and gearbox from the 350z, murano etc.). Bang for buck you can't beat these Vel's and despite all the nonsense about reliability and servicing etc. they are great cars for the money.
This is my second one and they have been less trouble than any Merc or BM I have owned. Rarity value in the UK makes it kind of 'cool' too. Parts fine (they only stopped selling them in the rest of Europe in Dec last year despite pulling the plug on them in the UK in 2005 after only 1400 sales in 3 years...oops).
Off to Toulouse for a few weeks in on Tuesday so will report back and see how she goes.
