Insurance Question

Hey guys,

It's insurance time. I passed my test last friday, and now have a car. Insurance is riciculous (being an 18yr old lad, it's to be expected nowadays) but I've found an insurer that seems to undercut everywhere else by alot.

It's a company called eCar...are they to be avoided?

Also, any recommendations for companies for younger drivers?

eCar, if it's ecarinsurance.co.uk are a legitimate company, their parent company also happens to own the underwriter they largely use, so it's feasible that, if you fit their risk profile correctly, you'll get sufficiently preferential rates..

Ahh, I see. I've read quite a few bad reviews, but a £500 cut is too big to ignore really...

If you want properly cheap insurance I would recommend www.i-kube.co.uk. It's run by motaquote.co.uk and what they do is put a little gps tracker in the car to monitor when the car is driven and charge you extra to use it between 11pm and 5am, these being the most risky times for young drivers.

I wouldn't go with eCar, unless you rode a motorcylce at 16/17 as you can transfer your NCB onto the policy.

I was with them last year and the price wasn't bad, although i changed cars twice and since you can only do it online i had to set the policy to change at a time i though would give me enough time to get home and cancel if the deal fell through.

I've used eCar for three years, across two different vehicles and haven't had any problems at all - they are still significantly cheaper than elsewhere (23 y/o 4 NCB).

Whilst you use the site to take out a policy there is a halpful customer service department you can call if email isn't your thing.

Only niggle I have is that the windscreen guys they use are national windscreens - used them and they're fine, but you can't get chips repaired at the guys in Halfords car park etc.
