Just watching Motorway patrol, and it seems the ausies have the right ideas with dealing with them.

Dawdler was doing 40mph on the motorway.

copper pulled him, and threatened to book him for "impeeding the flow of traffic"

muppet, did the yes sir routine, but failed to go above the speed he was travelling at before

so copper pulled him again and booked him.

why cant our police be proactive like that ? word would travel around sooo quickly and the problem would solve itself!

believe me, you do not want our Police ot becoem like the Aussie freeway police. They may nab people for driving too slowly, but they do the same for people driving a few km/h over the limit, as a consequence of which Aussie freeways are just moving queues of cars, all travelling at dead on the speed limit.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone driving at 40mph on the motorway. Is this a regular occurrence wherever you are?

Regularly see people "cruising" at between 45-55 on the M11/A12 - God it boils my piss. Mainly because on the A12 it forces lorry's doing 55-60 into the second lane which then holds up the rest of us..

fkers.

Welcome to the "motorways" in N. Ireland. Only 2 lanes, so you either get elephant racing for 5 miles, or Grandpa in his Prius trying to stick to 75mpg by driving at 55.5mph, causing lorries to pass him, again taking 5 miles.

yes It's so inconsiderate.

All they need to do is keep up with the HGVs and it wouldn't happen.

What "book"? It's not illegal?

Unlike driving at over 70mph, which is.

+1

I have seen people doing dangerously slow speeds on a motorway, including one old guy doing 18MPH on the A1(m)

Really really dangerous, inconsiderate, pointless, irritating....

by using the "impeding the flow of traffic on a motorway" line maybe ? is that a crime/offence?

Driving without due consideration for other road users IS an offence.

BUT: it would take a lot more than 45mph on the motorway to do it.

This sort of thing:

just one hour ago on the M2 between Chatham and Strood I witnessed an old man doing what must have been around 40mph... lucky its a 4 lane stretch and quiet as the HGVs didn't cause too much bother but seriously, these people need to have their licenses revoked...

If you are refering to the epsiode with the fat man on a scooter how the hell was that scooter going to go any faster carrying all that weight!!!!?

In principle i agree though that the should be a minimum speed for motorways but it should be at the police descretion. Id also like to see a ban on HGV in the outside lane of dual carriage ways to, has anyone else ever seen 2 lorries battling it out on the dual carriage way leading up to the severn bridge - fffin joke.

there used to be "50mph minimum" signs at the entrance to m-ways but these seem to have disappeared. I think they related to the speed a vehicle on the m-way had to be capable of (ie no tractors) rather than the speed you had to do.
