Wonderful things - in a deeply curious way.

They must have sold about 6 in the UK. Which is several more than the number of Renault Spider Sports sold without a windscreen.

I think they're strangely sexy, I'd love to have one myself. Saw a lovely shint blue one in a carpark in Edinburgh a couple of months ago, was just about to take a pic when this smackhead-looking bird and meathead bloke popped it open. I was very disappointed in the owners... I didn't feel they looked the sort to be pleased someone cared enough about their car to take a photo.

Love those cars.

Strangely attracted to the Vel Satis in a bargain barge way too smile

Not sure why as it's a dodgy Renault but i like the idea of owning one of those too. Always thought the Vel Satis was an excellent bargain barge too.

Awesome cars! Although were never going to sell at £30k new. We had one home last night and it's a seriously funky car. There is a button inside which opens all windows, and the roof at the same time, and its Iike being in a big convertible.

Same with the Vel Satis, they were pitched to high.. Saying that my Dad has recently bought a fully loaded Vel Satis for under £3k. The amount of comments he gets from people asking what it is, thinking it's a new model (private reg), etc it really funny. Quite a good choice IMO, its better than buying the usual Passat or Laguna etc. Inside it's huge, plenty space for 5 adults. Boot is huge!

However they are not cheap to run, he has had a few niggles with it which have been pricey to sort.

Looks like an awesome 7 seated, shame they're a 2+2! I saw one before they were released, the engineer driving it for road testing loved it and took it to the ace cafe a lot

ETA. From what i can find, 400 avantimes were sold and 1000 vel satis in the entire time they were available!
I'd still have an avantime though

Amazing looking car. Nearly bought one as the family wagon. Just a shame they didn't put a diesel in the front.

I like these too, especially on the bright green metallic. Shame they didn't catch on.

My next door neighbour has an Avatime as part of his Matra collection.

They're huge inside but I think they were quite expensive when new, which put people off.

There was a post on curiosities in the Classic car section and they were mentioned. Only about 430 sold in the UK IIRC. There was a rumour that they weren't well made and could bend in the middle!

I've only ever seen two, one was actually in France and the other is a French-registered car that visits my area every now and then. Both were that bright metallic blue that many Meganes were sold in here. Only had a chance to look around the one here, I think I recall it's a three-litre V6, and it was definitely manual, which only adds to the brilliant je ne sais quoi it has about it. Even now, the thing looks like a spaceship when parked next to 3-series and Fiestas! The interior looked lovely as well, surprisingly quality.

That green is something else, though.. biggrin
