So the authorities wonder why so many people drive without valid insurance...well I'm not surprised personally.

They're taking the piss in such a huge way that even the company with whom I've been loyal all the way through and in return got a smashing deal, have just kindly tried to almost DOUBLE what I was paying on my last policy!

So far with them I've had the 1.8 Volvo S40 which cost me £320 in LS12, fully comp and 10k per year with a £150 excess. Brilliant deal. Then the MX5 which went up to £380 and a stty stick excess due to it being an import *cough bullst cough*

Now I've just got a quote on a Passat TDI estate, totally standard, nothing special, I'm not transporting vital organs, gold or machine guns...

So they've kindly told me that the new policy will cost £631.71 which in their words is because of my postcode (IL've been at the same address for 28 years!!!!!) and if they want to put business use on that policy it goes up another hundred quid!

So I stroll along to the usual suspects: Gocompare and confused.com

The first comes up with a quote of £1781 fully comp the second £1389 TPF&T yikes

Just to put this into perspective: I can get a TVR 390SE insured for less than what confused and gocompare are quoting and I think NFU are on drugs at the moment too

fking sick!

Why should I? I've been there and done it myself and didn't enjoy the experience.

I do empathise with young drivers, but I'm pissed off because I've got a clean record and yet my insurance seems to be going up quite drastically!!!!!!

It's a piss take...I've got a 1000CC sportsbike sat outside which is insured for £126 per year and I've only had the bike license for a year!

You've only just figured out that insurance is legalised theft?

You're not too quick are you?

I've always known it was a con, but I've always had a good deal with NFU mutual until today!

Sadly they're the best deal I can find and I'm not looking forward to paying it!

It's a fking joke man

You know WHY though, right?

Fraudulent claims, faked accidents, massive bills for equivalent hire cars, blah blah blah.

I might go out with a PTRS and take some potshots at the little bds! hehe

It's not little scrotes nicking cars - your postcode is just an excuse.

It's people making £5k whiplash claims on a 5mph bump and staging accidents that are bumping up premiums.

Its not just an excuse it will be one of the reasons the price has gone up (insurer must have higher claims in his postcode than they had previous year),
injury claims etc are the Main reasons for the increase unfotunatley its unlikely to change in the future there's too many people making money out of insury claims etc

I have also noticed my insurance quotes going up like crazy.

It was £350 for a Volvo C70 T5 and I got a recent quote for a BMW 318i at £631 from the same bloody company. The T5 is like 250bhp and 318i I have no idea buts slow as hell.

If something is mandatory, then a Government body should provide the service not private companies.

But as bedford rascal said almost no insurer makes a direct profit from car insurance if the government took over not only would thousands of people be out of a job but the government coffers would have to make up for the cost of losing money on claims etc meaning your going to pay higher tax.
At least with private companies you have a choice to go elsewhere if your not happy with the price, if the government were running the show you wouldnt have a choice and i have a feeling they would try and use it to get more money out of motorists

Maybe the insurance industry as a whole needs to crack down on a few things and investigate them fully.

1. More investigation means less fraud, it may be more costly initially but it would eventually drive fraud down as crooks realised they were more likely to get caught.

2. Ensure that repair garages aren't taking the piss with what needs doing.

3. If hire cars etc are such a large cost then make it an expensive addition to the policy. Most people would take a £150 quid saving and have no hire car in event of a claim.

Instead they appear to be taking the easy route which is to just pass on the ballooning costs rather then reduce them.
