I have to admit by BMW was terrible in the snow earlier this year and i was sure i was getting winter tyres, BUT, i can't be bothered spending the money, it probably wont snow like that again for years, and 99.99% of the population that doesnt read motoring forums won't bother and they will all be fine.....if i really need them i'll eat my current tyres and buy winter tyres.

Don't get me wrong, we get the snow bad up here and my car could do with them....but £600+ so i can get to work a bit quicker a few days of year? And i know about sub 7 degrees arguement but just drive carefully!

I'm with you. I live in the south of England and it's not the end of the world if I can't make it into work.

Never got stuck in the snow with summer tyres before, and the ones on there a grippy even when it's freezing cold, so bugger it.

I had to do a 60 mile commute in the snow we had last year and I didnt miss a day of work. I Won't be bothering with the winter tyre thing.

Like the vast majority if people I live in an urban area main roads were cleared daily only getting off the estate and navigating 1 hill required care , However if i lived in a more rural area i might consider it.

Why by snow tyres. If your own tyres are in good condition and you drive according to the conditions you will be fine. Living in Inverness for near thirty years I have never been stuck. This has been with both front and rear wheel drive cars. On this I will not be buying winter tyres, there is no need.

I have never seen that before. How does it work? I assume it comes off? How much is it? Does it really work?
