Wiesmann Announces Switch To Twin-Turbo V8

Blown V8 replaces naturally aspirated V10

Wiesmann has officially announced that it will succeed the BMW M5-sourced V10 powerplant it uses in its MF5 roadster and coupe with BMW's new twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8.

This is 'shock - night follows day' stuff, mind you - we predicted the news back in August, upon hearing of the demise of BMW's naturally aspirated V10.

The MF4 is also getting the new engine, however: the old 362bhp 4.8-litre V8 is being replaced with the 4.4-litre bi-turbo motor in a 402bhp state of tune. That's enough, says Wiesmann, to get the MF4 to 180mph, and to 62mph in 4.6secs.

At the top end of things, the MF5 is getting its V10 replaced with the M version of the same twin-turbo V8. This means 547bhp, 0-62mph in 3.9secs and a top speed of 193mph.

At the bottom end of the Wiesmann scale, the MF3 retains the same six-cylinder engine.

Everytime I see a Wiesmann story on P/h, it makes me think 'I wish this story was about TVR and their latest beast'.

love the Wiesmann cars, my favorite is the MF4 GT but the MF5 GT is ok too

what i also like about say this MF5 GT is how the wheels fit in the carros...perfect



on the edge of the wheel arches? and low, the wheels fit perfect in the wheel space or how you say that in English

Actually, this could be (yet) another example of 'less is more', automotively:- n/asp motor + smaller alloys (giving better ride-quality) + probably softer suspension = more driveable machine!

Funny that. My daily drive is an S Type and my toy is a Marcos. Perhaps that why the Weismann floats my boat but as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Does anyone buy these things?

I have never seen one on the road, the only ones I have seen in the flesh have been at motor shows.

£100K is a lot for such a niche car, especially when you consider what else is available at that price. Performance is adequate but nothing special, it certainly would not be enough to tempt me away from the more established marques.

At £40-50K I'm sure they would sell in bucketloads

I don't think they're that popular in the UK. Germany is by far their most important market, they sold about 1200 cars over the years I believe. Incredible attention to detail, you can get pretty much everything you want and you get reliable technology. I'd have an MF3 Roadster over a 911 Cab anyday.

I've seen a couple in Switzerland but never in the UK.

Part of the appeal for me, I still love 'em.
