WHAT CAR - SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
Discussion
I'm hitting the big 50 next year so have decided to run a decent car for a year .( live for today , die tomorrow etc ) So here are the criteria. I have a max of £50k to spend and i have shortlisted the folowing - Nissan GTR, Aston Martin Vantage, BMW M6 , BMW 645i/650 convertible. The car must be a daily driver altough i will be keeping my Honda s2000 which i have had for over 11 years now and is worth the same as multipack bag of crisps. I'll be doing about 10k miles in the year including a road trip to the south of France. I realise that with depreciation/ servicing costs/insurance for the year this will cost between 12k and 15k but at least it will be nice to look back on in future years and say guesS what i did.
The big question is what would you choose. I'm not interested in Ferrari's, Porsche's Maserati's etc and Audi R8's are still out of reach.
I have no kids which is probably why i can afford to do this so a two seater is adequate.
If anyone runs one of the above your comments on reliability/ running costs would be appreciated.
Over to you PH er's

Alter your budget to 49,990 and spend a rennet on a keyboard with working Caps Lock and Return keys
Apart from that, for me it would be the M6 but I like beemers, your comment about the R8 though, sure I saw some for about 56k recently, they are plummeting, not sure if I would want one as a DD though

For me this could easily be a 'all you'll ever need' car

Stretch the budget just a little (or haggle!)

Having borrowed a mate's for a few days, I can confirm that they are fine as a daily drive.

V8 Vantage is a fantastic, old school type muscle car. Get the later 4.7 rather than the 4.3 as I found it more responsive and obviously goes a bit better.
No problems using it every day, gets hot in traffic and will have to put up with heavy steering and clutch. Central locking buggered up once or twice too.
If I were you, and you were to use it everyday, I'd get the M6 as it's all the car you could ever want...you can just get in and drive, where as the Vantage requires a bit more TLC and expense....
You're in a priveledged position, make the most of it!!!! (and drive it properly please, not just potter around in it!)

I know you said no Pork, but a 996 Turbo S has to be worth a punt, surely? Huge amount of car for £44k, and might hold value quite reasonably, esp when compared to some of the newer metal.

Completely agree, the Vantage is a proper event eveytime you fire it up, they look and sound stunning. No problems using it every day, gets hot in traffic and will have to put up with heavy steering and clutch. Central locking buggered up once or twice too.
