Could be as simple as a mis-fitted oil filter if it's just had a service.

The sump plug is supposed to get a new copper washer after a service if not they can rattle loose. Might be worth checking that.

The sump plug is in the centre of the engine bay. There is a plastic sump cover over the bottom of the engine and an inspection hole (sometimes covered but often removed). if the oil is coming from there the either the sump plug is loose. You need a 10mm (IIRC) square key and you can them from Halfords for £5. Tighten it up if it's loose.

If not then the copper washer is shagged and a new one is available for £1.50.

or just get the dealer to do it!

I rather pay a mechanic 50 quid to check/fix properly then take it for warranty work at small car dealer ( provided it's not a main dealer ) think carefully about that one

£1.50 for a copper washer? Daylight robbery.

Friend of mine had two 172 cups. Fantastic cars. Unfortunately both fell to bits.

For that reason I wouldn't waste too much time in getting it diagnosed.

its a small dealer but iv brought my last 3 cars from them so they know how fussy i can get with my cars.

from my experience of car ownership iv found its how you look after the car as to how long it will last ... my friend has a clio (not a r -sport) but hes looked after it since 2003 when he brought it new and has not had any problems with it at all

Halfords prices! I've heard that some dealers hand them out for nowt or at least very little. I wanted mine on a Saturday/Sunday when the dealer's parts dept. had shut

My mate bought a 172 brand new, and that had its fair share of problems.
I remember the suspension collapsed as he was driving along. All paid under warranty but not good for a brand new car. It was good fun on the twisties though.
