McLaren MP4-12C Price Revealed

All-new Macca will undercut Ferrari 458

McLaren has revealed the pricing for its new MP4-12C - and in a cheeky supermini-style move it will undercut its chief rival, the Ferrari 458 Italia, by a whisker over £1000.

When it goes on sale next year, the McLaren will cost £168,500, a price that includes new-rate VAT (20 per cent), although you'll have to find extra for tax and first-registration costs.

The 458 Italia costs £169,545, but that's currently inclusive of 17.5 per cent VAT, so the price is almost certain to rise further come January.

I'd settle for it being "more analogue / less digital" - both will blow into the weeds anything shy of a genuine hypercar.

I'm really excited about this car and hope it will be up there with the 458 in terms of performance. I like the look of it from the outside and inside as well.

Its got more power and torque than the 458 and is lighter too I believe, I think it will obliterate the 458 personally.

Me too... as much as I love a fezza my money would be going on the MP4 12c, less ostentatious too...

30-35bhp more, 10% more torque and a lot more torque over a wider rev range and also it's about 70kgs lighter. straight line performance, in theory, there won't be much of a contest, the MP4-12C should be quicker.

Between these two I'd go for the Gallardo with manual gearbox. It has something missing from these technical exercises. And who really cares about lap times?

Anyone know when the journo's are scheduled to get their first drive? I thought it was Jan-Feb timeline but I can't remember where I read that.

Mclaren v Ferrari is definitely one of the battles for next year.

Perhaps because I am British I am really rooting for it to put one over Ferrari.

the 12c is alot quicker than the 458,early on in the year when they were testing their 458 against the prototype 12c at dunsfold,the 12c was lapping nearly 2 seconds quicker,around the gumpert time,i think now its even quicker,im afraid as of yet i cannot confirm this,but you will see early next year how much quicker

Ferrari for me. Even if this is faster, I suspect the Ferrari will be more exciting and feel more 'special'
