Has anyone used these guys before? Just had a call from them saying for an upfront fee of £99 they can send buyers out to view my car. They arrange finance for people. I checked out their creds on their website and it seems genuine, or am I being nieve?

Don't give Cardata a penny. You'll never hear from them again or get a call from one of their 'interested customers'.

Not sure why they haven't been closed down yet!

They aren't a scam per se... but nor would I given them any money.

To look at the question another way, who was the last person you knew that bought a car through Cardata?
If they are so great, why does everyone else use Autotrader?

In short, avoid. Or offer them the £99 once you sell...

Well, I told them that I would not pay £99 upfront BUT if they sent me 5 potential purchasers round I would pay them £499 (they told me over 20 people "in my area" wanted "my car") . Now, clearly this is a great deal for them and they took me up on my offer, right?

Looks like this agency are still annoying people despite my ad saying NO AGENCIES!

Managed to keep him on the phone for a while.

Me: Why should I pay you £90 if you have customers wanting to buy?
Them: Because it costs us money to market your car to them and send letters etc.
Me: What it costs you to copy and paste from Auto Trader? Why can't they just use Auto Trader themseleves?
Them: Because they come to us for finance.
Me: So if they take finance through you then you have to find them a car?
Them: No but we like to help match them.
Me: So if they don't have to buy a car through you why can't they look at Auto Trader themselves?
Them: Erm, because we like to help them....
Me: So how about I pay you after somebody buys my car?
Them: No becuase we start working staright away to match them to your car and it costs us money.
Me: If you already know people are interested you must have matched them already?
Them: Erm.....

I got the hard sell from them and parted with the £100 or whatever it was. Never saw or heard from anyone thereafter. It was along time ago, well before Internet forums highlight legalised scammers like these.

The Salesman made an appointment for someone to view, etc. All very convincing at the time. I reported them to the Serious Fraud Office and trading standards.

Car Data is a trading name of a company called Database Advertising Limited which (according to credit reference agency) is Dissolved! It would be interesting to contact Companies House and inform them of a company that is continuing to trade whilst insolvent... I'm sure they would have some interest!

Do not give them a penny... it obviosuly isn't legit if they are continuing trading whilst dissolved!
