Hi all,

I need some 255/40 R18 size tyres. What's good in the cold/wet/frozen slush that we know as autumn/winter/spring in Blighty?

Does anyone know if all-season tyres exist in this size? Failing that, what else would be recommended?

Cheers smile

Sorry, SVS, can't really help. I have a similar question - different size (225/45 R17) but hey. Many people on here seem to like the Vredestein Quatrac 3 as an all season tyre - they probably do them in your size, but probably not to the same speed rating. (And they're as rare as hens' teeth at the moment!)

You do realise though, that there are many, many tyre threads on here, don't you? Including several, quite recent and MONUMENTAL threads about winter tyres (some all season recommendations thrown in) - seriously, the PH Search function is your friend.

I am running uniroyal rainexperts and they grip very well in the wet compared with my old falken re912. They are meant to be one of the best in deep water aquaplaining too (haven't experienced that yet). They are meant to be ok in the slush too.

If you want a good allrounder then the continental sport contact 2's have had great reviews. Excellent in wet and dry and with a sportier feel than something like the uniroyal.

I'm running Uniroyal Rainsport 2s in 245/40 18 on the front of a heavy RWD car and they've been excellent in the cold & wet, & have controlled the front of the car very well in the recent snow, on the flip side the 265/35 18 Michelin PS2s on the back have been awful, recently changed for Falken Ziex 912 but its too soon to report on them.

Put goodyear eagle vector all season tyres on the a4 quattro and they have transformed the car,the summer tyres that were on it were totally useless and the car slid all over the place.
