Hey all,

I hope everyones new year has started well =) Mine is going to be on the up as soon as I get a new car sorted (hurrah!), and that will be within the week. The only problem is that I am torn between two cars, and I was hoping to get a little guidance to help me make the correct decision!

Its between an 07 Fiesta ST and a 51 Golf GTi 1.8T. Here is an outline of the info

Fiesta ST:

1 owner
33k miles
heated leather
white
fsh
privately sold by a friend at work
£5750

Golf:

1 owner
77k miles
3dr
fsh
heated recaros
dealer supplied
£4200

The ST will leave me a little tight on money for the next month, but that is not so much of an issue for me. I dont suppose anyone has had a similar choice to make, or owned either/both of these cars and could help me out a little? I have been too-ing and fro-ing between the two for the last week now and am no closer to a decision. I only commute about 120 miles ish per week so dont really drive that much compared to most. The ST is newer obiviously, and in a desirable color so I am thinking its depreciation compared to the golf would be lower. The price of the golf is high compared to lots of others out there, but it is low mileage for its age.

Just writing this has made me even more indecisive, so any guidance would be much appreciated!

There are 04 plate 2.0 GT FSI Golfs on autotrader for under £5k so how come you're considering a 51 plate?

If i had your money i'd be placing it in a 04/54 plate Leon fr. You could get a cracker for £5k.

On the basis of the information you've given it's a no brainer for the Fiesta.

Cheers for all the replies guys. I think that I have now written off the idea of the mk4 golf, so thanks for helping with that!

Mk5 golf - I just generally dont like their looks. Dont get me wrong, I love my Golfs (own a mk2), but not such a fan of the 5.

Leon Cupra - This idea I do like, but I have sturggled to come across one nearby, in my price bracket and that is the 180hp version (225 is too high on insurance).

Leon Cupra or Fiesta... or anything else for that matter that will increase my indecisiveness =P

Each to their own I guess, for me the Mk4 Golf is the worst looking of them all.

There are about ten 1.8T 180bhp Leons on autotrader from £4k-ish to £5750, shirley some of those are near enough? Think you need to do more looking or be willing to travel a bit further for the right car.

Cheers guys again.

I have found a Leon Cupra reasonably nearby which is £4k with 72k miles, FSH, 03 plate, cambelt 10k ago. In terms of fun, i guess it would not compete with the fiesta st, but in terms of practicality i guess the cupra wins (and cost, which is a factor of course!). Any more info/opinions on the fiesta st/leon cupra would be much appreciated.

Thanks again!

Try www.seatcupra.net for stuff on the Cupra.

You could also try the Octavia vRS, but it's not as good handling wise as the Leon apparently, only a 5 speed 'box too, unlike the Leon's 6 speeder.

Both much better value than the Golf.

The Leon has an extra 33bhp over the fiesta and a turbo, no contest!

IMO, if you're dropping 5k on a car, £100 to travel to get it isn't really that much...

Dave - I agree, and have widened my search. Contacted a seller of a Leon to get some more information. Leon would be better in terms of budget so we will see what comes up =)

Thanks for the help again.
