Usual BS From the Telegraph:

"The VAT rise will kill car showrooms – unless retailers absorb the increase, or emulate Seat and Skoda by selling cars VAT-free"

I think retailers should be banned from saying "VAT free" when really they mean "We made up an inflated RRP then give away a big discount"

I meet an amazing amount of people who believe that it is true, they think that somehow these companies actually don't need to charge the VAT. Normally the same sort who think 0% APR is a good deal.

End rant.

And that's why PR people are worth their money.

Saw a standard Astra VXR with black wheels up for 14,995 today... It was two years old and other than the alloys was a totally standard car. Apparently, the salesman was trying his best effort to convince me this was a steal.. Shame he didn't realise I had an Astra VXR Nurburgring previously and knew it wasn't.

VAT Free cars? They exist in one place.. British Forces Germany BF(G).

My last few new cars and their VAT free, BFG prices.

57 Astra SRi 1.8 - £10,000
58 Astra VXR Nurburgring - £14,000
59 Focus RS - £23,166

When the dealerships start giving these sorts of prices, we will see true VAT free prices. Now, we are simply seeing the value of good PR and investment in media.

Same as 'duty (VAT) free' shopping in airports, everyone thinks they are getting a bargin because it's 'VAT free', when actually what they are actually buying is something that's had it's price marked up by 20% and then 17.5% 'off' because it's 'VAT free'.
