Huge Yacht Takes Monaco GP Circuit To The Seas

155-metre super-yacht concept brings new meaning to the phrase 'messing about on the water'

Yes, at the moment it's just a concept and no, you won't be able to take it for a holiday on the Norfolk Broads even if it does ever get built, but this super-yacht/floating island is still audaciously fabulous.

The concept, called The Streets of Monaco, has been designed by Island Yacht Design, based in Derbyshire (yes, we know, not a county renowned for its beautiful coastline and exclusive marinas) and is a Monte Carlo-themed mega-yacht at the centrepiece of which is a fully operational kart track-sized recreation of the famous street circuit.

At 155 metres long, this astonishing piece of maritime madness is about three-quarters the length of the recently decommissioned HMS Ark Royal aircraft carrier.

Whether it ever gets built or not of course remains to be seen. All we know is that it would really confuse Jonathan Legard if it turned up at the real Monaco during GP weekend...

You can read more about the Streets of Monaco and its excessive opulence (including the 'beach decks', garden and tennis court/helipad) at the Super Yacht Design website.

At least it looks a bit like a boat from here...

Scale the floating-island-track idea up by X 5 and you'd be able to fit a Monaco style circuit on there, complete with an underwater tunnel section …

They should tap Bernie up for £1b of his pocket money and make it happen.

(and if the designers are reading this, please put a small hollowed out volcano in the middle with smoke coming out etc. Thanks)

A scalextric track in the studio would confuse Legard.

Somehow I can't see the type of people with enough money to keep this kind of thing runing wanting to go carting. Nice concept, not a good thing to build.

Also, apparently he is off the F1 team.

Hmmm are the Yanks thinking of scrapping a Nimitz Carrier ?

Would make an ideal donor island smile

Use the Nimitz and the Ark Royal connected by a long suspended track, and you could have any length track. A plus point being that it would move around a bit smile

Same here.

Who said boats had to be boat-shaped, anyway? Icebergs are stupid shapes and they float... hehe

Monday morning and already we have a winner for the "Pistonheads totally pointless Story of the Week" article.

My daughter drew a picture of a car last week, when I asked her about it she said it was a 'new kind of electric car that would run for ever without needing recharging'. Would you like it sent over so that you can make an article about it? Or should I send it straight to 'Autocar'.....?

Is the the maritime version of "doing a one-77" as it's called in the automotive world? i.e. whilst the whole world falls down around you, energy costs soar, Co2 doom mongers gather their forces, and most companies batten down the hatches, you say "F**k it, lets build something really, really expensive" and just hope someone, anyone, buys one? ;-)
