Hello,

Can anyone confirm if you can get a tax disc (from PO), using a 1 day insurance policy certificate?

Thanks

A bit hit and miss really. Depends totally on how observant and on the ball the person behind the counter is.

Most short term policies will state on the documents that it can not be used to taxing a vehicle. As said, if the person doesn't notice, they may just let it pass.

I know people who have done it with no problems.

IIRC you need at least 14days cover from the date you tax the vehicle but I could be wrong, I'd check the dvla website. Having said that, as the other response suggests you may be lucky - I doubt it though, they're pretty observant I find.

If you have trouble, take out a full length policy, get tax and then cancel it within the cooling off period

You can tax on a one day policy unless the policy excludes it.

We get one day tax cover notes all the time, i'm trade BTW.

Yes, you can.

I got a 1 day policy with Dayinsure (I believe)to tax (and deliver) a car I sold a while back.

The woman in the post office picked up on the fact that it was a one day policy, but wasn't bothered.

By law you need 14 days minimum left on your insurance to get tax, however al depends on how strict/observant the clerk in the post office is. Go and try it you have nothing to loose other than the days insurance you paid for!

one question if you have no insurance why are you taxing it? why not decalre off rd?

At a guess, tax/insurance has expired, car is for sale and it doesn't really make sense to insure a car that won't be driven, but people will pay better money for something with a good few months of Tax and Test than without.
