A bit of advice required
Discussion
Morning folks (and if this is in the wrong place mods please feel free to move it), I have a slight quandry. When driving into work this morning the handbrake on the Saab appears to have had a funny turn. It's still holding the car when applied, however when pulling it on there is zero resistance from the lever (to the point where I can pull it up with only my little finger without depressing the button). It does appear to have just happened as was working 100% fine yesterday, and was fine this morning when setting off. To say I'm a wee bit puzzled is an understatement (not to mention annoyed as this may now put the kibosh on seeing the family at the end of the month if I need to take the car into the garage.)
Any advice and or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Handbrakes generally work by pulling on two cables that run to the rear brakes (used to be front on older Saabs)with a spring. The lever will raise without the button because the button is only to release the tang from the ratchet that holds the lever in place.
Limp lever may be due to a broken spring or possibly one broken cable so the other side is still holding but you're applying half the effort..
This is the general principle and I don't know if the Saab set-up is any different.

Park it in gear and towards the kerb until you get it to the garage.
Easier said than done as the Saab needs to be in reverse in order to disengage the key - although I have parked it in a spot in the car park where if it were to roll it's not going to damage anybody elses motor (and will cause minima damage to my own)Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
