Leaked: Mercedes C-class Coupe

Grainy images could be the first glimpse of new two-door compact exec

These could well be the first unadorned images of the forthcoming Mercedes C-class coupe.

The Mercedes news from the Detroit show may be all about the raft of tweakery that has been applied to the saloon and estate versions of its trusty compact exec, (which you can read all about in our previous story on the refreshed Merc C-class), but the Geneva show in March is expected to reveal a far more intriguing piece of metal - a two-door C-class to sit alongside the E-class coupe.

And the car in these slightly grainy (and heavily photoshopped) pics - apparently leaked from some promotional material - could be it.

The new car takes the refreshed nose from the rest of the C-class range, while the car seems to be bespoke from the A-pillars back. But it's a shame that, like the current E-class coupe, the two-door C will miss out on the Mercedes coupe tradition of pillarless, frameless windows.

As for engines, expect the mix of diesel and petrol motors to be broadly shared with the saloon.

Word in the webosphere, however, is that the C-class coupe will be turned into a range-topping C63 AMG Black Series, using the new 5.5-litre Mercedes twin-turbo V8 to give it 563bhp and 664lb ft of torque.

Dont they already do a small C class coupe, the CLS. Along with the larger coupe, the CLK, does this mean we have three coupes in the one Klass?

Very confusing!

Stil like it too though

I think it moves the CLK up and really this one become the BMW 3 Series coupe competitor that Merc should have had years ago.

That looks very nice. But then again, so are BMW's and Audi's offerings.

I can see this being a success for Mercedes either way, as the young professional market are more fussy about looks and badge credentials than anything else.

Something I noticed; the side windows are no longer pillarless; is this Mercedes' attempt at increasing the sportiness (i.e. structural integrity of the cars) or cutting costs?

All these names are just pure marketing, nowadays.

Let's see. We've already got a two-door version of C-Class called E-Class Coupe. Now, they are going to introduce another two-door C-Class, this time called C-Class coupe. Both coupes are basically two-door versions of the current C-Class.

Why E-Class Coupe isn't based on E-Class like its name says? I mean Audi's A7 is based on A6, NOT A4. BMW's 6-series is based on 5-Series, NOT 3-Series...

I guess the next CL will be actually a two-door version of the E-Class rather than a S-Class.

Not confusing at all! This replaces the CLK which became the E-class coupe (much bigger). The CLS is a saloon!

E-Class Coupe isn't much bigger than the old CLK or the current C-Class at all. In fact, it's smaller than the current C-Class.

So, basically we'll have 3 models based on C-Class, the biggest being C-Class follows by E-Class Coupe, then this C-Class Coupe.

The CLK was replaced by the E-Class coupe (at least at pricing point) while this new C-Class Coupe is supposed to replace the CLC (which was really a 3-series Compact competitor which itself was replaced by the 1-series, so yes, a bit mixed up....).

According to reports from the US, MB see this car as a direct competitor to the E92 but in the UK, due to the price point of the E-Class Coupe, I assume that the new C-Class Coupe will be priced below the E92 and therefore positioned below the E92 and closer to the E82.

Still confused;

And, as above, I will take mine in Graphite except with 20 inch Brabus wheels!

I like it. But it would be better if it looked less like the saloon, like they've done with the E coupe and saloon

If this means that horrible CLC thing is dead, then thats excellent news.

I look forward to a black series too!

lolss YOUR MESSING WITH MY MIND NOW
;-)

I like it but wouldnt spend my money on it, as said previously there are many other quality offerings and one of them is where my money would be. It's nice but not impressive, and certainly not making me impulsive.

I think the CLC is already dead and gone. This still leaves them with 2 coupes based on the same platform which seems strange.

I have a odd liking for the e class coupe which I can't really explain.

Looks good.

Much better than the awkwardness of the E coupe. The new interior looks like a much needed improvement on the original too.
