Got really excited when news of the most iconic cars produced in the 70's/80's were to be reintroduced by Lancia/Audi. However after reading this months EVO it appears that the new Stratos and Quattro are only to be produced in a limited run and with an astronomical price tag to match.

Could the manufacturers not get these into a normal production run so that they are more affordable to the masses? Surely this would have people getting rid of their TTs/A5s/BMWs etc. to get their hands on one of these beauties.

Certain things should remain Rare and not diluted by the masses.

have you seen the quality of the stratos? it's unreal for a one off. that doesn't come cheap [look at the glickenhaus p4/5 for example - £2m+ on top of the cost of the enzo], for either development or tooling.

same with the audi, although they have a much bigger parts bin to play with and can write off more of the cost as a marketing exercise.

Problem is that at normal production levels the Quattro would cannibalise sales of both the S3 and the TTRS. It's already a bit too much of a nice to ram another production vehicle into.

Both of these models are intended as Halo products and as such are rightly so exclusivly priced

Quattro can't be that expensive surely (relatively)? 70k tops?

The Stratos is not being made by Lancia, it's been commisioned initially as a one off and is made by Pinninfarina. It's "price" includes the cost of a 430 Scuderia too.
Also I think I've read in the past that if the Quattro were to make production, there is a chance it will get a V8 rather than the 5-Pot turbo, which would be a shame.

"if the Quattro were to make production, there is a chance it will get a V8 rather than the 5-Pot turbo, which would be a shame."

+1, I love the sound of the 5cyl.

The problem with thses reproductions is the limited market and therefore the escalated price.

Some reproductions such as the mini worked because of popularity, reconfiguration and MARKETING.

I would LOVE to have a Stratos, Quattro or, even more, an Integrale and, I must admit, an R5 TII.

These repros just won't exist w/out a hefty price or a facelift that removes their appeal.
