Hi!,

Recently managed to Sell my Audi A4 Cabriolet and am torn between Two cars...

Now i have had Lots of "Nice cars" in the past, To mention X2 Audi TT's, X2 E46 Cabriolets 320 and 330 Msport and my A4 Cabriolet....

With the lovely rise in Petrol (Thanks both Labour and Conservative) i am forced to guy a car from the dark side....Something i havent done before....Diesel frown

However it has to be done and i am pleasantly surprised it must be said.

The two cars im torn between @ the moment are:

a 54 plate Volvo S60 D5 SE, 163 Bhp looks nice, fully loaded leathers etc

and a E39 BMW 530d Sport, 193 Bhp Looks Nice doesnt have nav though (Not too much of a prob)

Im 27 and i like to think im still a bit of a lad, Problem i have is that is a Volvo a car for a 27 year old?

Need some advice, drove the Volvo, Goes like a train, bags of torque....but thats the only thing in its favour for me, it doesnt woo me (I know its a diesel)
Does 40or so to the gallon too, another plus point

However Havent drove the 5 Series yet (Hopefully @ the weekend) whats the performance like? better than the S60?

Given the choice both cars are in dealerships for around the 5,000 5,500 mark
Volvo on a 54 plate with 87,000 1 keeper good history
BMW on an 02 plate 91,000 2 keepers good history.

What would you go for?

Any help will be a massive Plus for me

Thanks!

Deerfoot

530 all the way, have a look at the petrol straight six if your mileage isn't too high.

My Body keeps telling Me BMW i just think a bloke without kids, dog and family can get away with a 4 door BMW still looks sporty enough, young enough, i just dont see young people driving Volvo's.

The XC70 is a 4wd though isnt it and is heavier, We use V70's D5 @ work and they are good for 40mpg.

Though we also use new shape 5 series and you can hammer them, really go for it and get 40- upwards.

Just think the 5 series is a drivers car....I DONT KNOW!!!!!! frown

I wouldn't let what other's think be a deciding factor.

Not sure about the Volvo but there is no way you will get anything like 40mpg from an E39 6 pot diesel if you "hammer" it! Especially so if its an auto.

Its a manual 530D.

Oh i dont intend to let others decide for me its just to see if anyone has had the pleasure to have driven both and the general consensus.

But the Bmw is ticking all the boxes at the mo.

Have looked at 330D's,

Looked at a lovely 330D Msport in silver, Nav, Tv, leathers etc, But they still seem quite high in price for the budget i have set aside.

51 plate in dealership is still £6300 upwards with over 100k

How long do you intend to keep the car as the cheaper sale price will be easily offset by the heavier depreciation of the E39. Just a thought. The 330d would be my choice.

would keep it a year or two @ least.

the 330d is nice but picking one up from dealer (Only place i would buy from now) under 100k is 7 upwards

Don't be fooled, the ladies love a Volvo, makes you look all sensible and therefore good mating material. wink

HAHA!! However could the Volvos good MPG make you out to be a bit tight?
DOnt get me wrong im really keen on both, But i have a feeling the BMW will keep its value a bit better than the Swede, However Sensiblity might take over the Laddish part of me....
