R26 F1 230 Vs Modded Mk1 TT

HI guys,
Looking at both of these cars now. I think it is down to either of these two. I know they are quite different but sort of the same too. For say around £10,000 you can get a 07 R26 which is fast, handles well (from what I have read, never driven), looks good (to me) recaros, Brembos and tuneable.
A modded TT Quattro for this money could have Remap (with 260+hp), exhaust, brembo upgrade, rims + more.
Both look good to me but have only driven a stock TT 04 model in manual which was pretty good. TT will be anywhere from 2000 to 2005 model where as the Megane could be 07-08. So one has better build quality I guess but the other is newer.
Has anyone driven (or owned) both to give me some more insight to help me with my decision as there aren't to many around for sale in Edinburgh. (No R26's anyway)

Depends what you want it for really. The R26 is an all out track day car, so is a big compromise for commuting, although probably one I could live with if I could afford it.
The TT is going to be less good on the track (with the R26 you are paying for a lot of track development) but assuming the mods are done right it'll still be a good car for day to day.

I'd still go for the Renault. Buying a car knowing it needs several grands' worth of work doing to it to get it to your liking is never a good idea. So unless you can get the TT in something like the spec you want it'll be a slow process getting it where you want it to be.
I owned an R26 07 plate from new doing 45k miles in 2 trouble free years, superb car can't recommend them enough. I havent owned a tt but have driven a few. There's not going to be alot of difference in performance but the tt will be older and cost you more money to modify and will need new service items also. The R26 is sorted straight away, a remap being the only thing that is worth doing (the chassis can easily handle 270hp). Use ktec in Dorset or rs tuning in Leeds for the remap. Job done. By the way the R26 is a phase 2 megane built in the Renaultsport factory in Dieppe, it had much better build quality than the stuff churned by the other Renault factories.

I think that depends, for some people personalising a car or making it how you want it is part of the fun and enjoyment of owning it.Also a modded car is often likely to out perform a stock car by a notable amount.

The TT's actually look quite good IMO, a bit yuppy and not a great image, but certainly not an unattractive car.
But even modded I'm not sure how much of a drivers car it'll be. Sure it might be fast and grip well, but that's not quite the same thing.
It's also a coupe, which suggests carrying people or stuff isn't really a priority.
The Renault, well its a FWD hatch. So chances are it'll lose money quite quickly and it'll drive like a FWD hatch.
Lots of other cars at this money too.

Actually you remind me. OP - have you thought about a Maxda RX-8? Ok they drink fuel, but apart from that they are really good cars.
Coupe looks, but still with 4 proper seats and a boot. RWD and a lovely balanced chassis. Not the most speedy in a straight line and no huge turbo shove, but they aren't slouches either.

Agree with most of this, and it is FWD hatch, but it's an exceedingly capable one.In R26 form, didn't it become EVOs car of the year in 2008 beating some exceedingly nice metal?

I had an R26 for around a year, before moving to an R26.R for around the same time. Cracking cars. The normal R26 is a superb all-rounder. Comfy on the road with all the toys for long journeys (cruise etc), and a hoot on track. R26.R obviously took that slightly further but the base R26 is 99% there.

PS sorry to go off-topic - To OP - Megane - Only good way of modding a Mk1 TT is to put it in a crusher, IMO
