Hello all,

For the last 5 months or so we have had a white van parked directly outside our house (on the public road). It hasn't moved in 5 months, has a flat tyre, BUT the lovely neighbour who put it there did recently tax it- I ran out and asked when it would be moved and he told me that I might like to keep my questions to myself.

I've had enough of it, but I suppose he's not actually doing anything wrong except winding the funk out of me. I've thought of jacking up one side of it and tipping it over, graffiti-ing it, slashing all the tyres; but none of these are going to do me much good as an honest citizen dad with no criminal record (yet).

What can I do? Both humorous and useful ideas considered, aiming to get at least one useful suggestion mind :-)

Reckon you could just bump up against the back of it in someone's 4WD and push it in front of the next person's house?

funny enough, part of the situation is, we are moving house- or will be and don't want shots of the house with a 5hitty old van outside! So, good answer, we'll act on that one!

It was a slightly sarcy but also true answer, I would not advise getting into any disputes with neighbours if you are trying to move as it will be 'registered' and could put potential buyers off. He is not doing anything legally wrong so you're stuck on taking formal action. I would not advise illegal action for many reason as much as it pisses you off.

Perhaps make up some reason that you need to get to the front of your house, ie skip/building works etc and ask politely if he could move it and that you will help him move it if needed.

Like you say its insured and taxed on the public road, not a lot you can do. however it will need an MOT in the future to get it taxed next time which will mean fixing the flat tyre andn if they can not be bothered then it will be towed.

Or alternatively, if it's taxed, MOT'd, insured and legally parked on a public highway you could just mind your own business.

Thanks for that :-)

Obviously it had an MOT but it isn't roadworthy now with the flat tyre. It's right outside my house and has pretty much been abandoned or given up as a store for all the crap it's filled up with. But thanks, I appreciate your insight.

Buy the owner a few beers for him to move it for your photo session?

Normally I'd agree, but even though it is a public highway, its not within the realms of common decency to leave a trashy old transit parked outside somebodies house for weeks at a time. I would imagine it is unsightly and inconvenient, hence why he hasn't parked it outside his own house.

I'd consider getting a scrapper, perhaps MOT failure with some tax left or cheapest car going and then leave it parked outside his house. Perhaps give it a bit of spray paint to make it look uglier!

Is it possible the neighbour got this exact advice from someone because the OP pissed him off in the past?

Ring Crimestoppers and report it, but make out it's not you. Prevents a dispute on the house and ballache of the van owner

I agree.

What a silly reply, anyone have BRDs address? I'm sure he'll appreciate a stty old transit van parked infront of his house for the next 6 months.

Every time a thread comes up about a neighbour blocking somebody in because they've parked near their house it runs into countless pages of apoplexy: "It's a public road they can't tell you where to park, we all hate these people who think they own the road outside their house etc etc...". In theis case because it's a white van we're all appalled at the nerve of the bloke.

As I said, 'IF' it's legal then he has every right, if it isn't legal then report it to the BiB and your problem is solved. Or do what H_K says above and return the favour, nothing stopping you.

It's this "Who does he think he is parking near my house?" attitude that annoys me.
It's an inconvenience. If you can find a way to change it good for you but it isn't your 'right' to tell him what to do.
If you disliked your neighbours you wouldn't say "Well I've asked them to move but they are just refusing too, can you imagine the nerve of them?"

And again, the operative word in my original post was 'IF'. If it's illegal report it.
