Instead of the usual 'What Car' thread I've got a different take on it. As my motoring interests are broad ranging and varied, and I like to consider what cars I'd like to have at some point, it poses the question of what, or indeed which cars can fulfill my needs and wants, automotively speaking. wink

I suspect no one car can fulfill all of these requirements, so lets see what you guys can come up with biggrin

Requirements:

1. I like to compete in ALRC (Association of Land Rover Clubs) off road RTV events. It's Land Rover's only, so at least it makes this an easy requirement to fulfill biggrin

2. Daily driver. Needs to be small, seat 2 people MAX and doesn't need much load space. Must be good on fuel, as in realistically truly averages 45-50mpg+. Small because it'll often be parallel parked down a side street. As it'll be used often it can't be dull and boring though or else I won't use it (I know what I'm like rolleyes ).

3. Something for shows. I love attending Classic & Sports Car shows during the summer. So need a car that can be displayed at such an event. As a rule anything interesting and/or classic is acceptable at these shows. Something like a 996 or e36 M3 would generally be considered a bit mundane and ordinary I suspect. For an idea of the types of cars on display there are some pics here:

http://s132.photobucket.com/albums/q11/300bhpton/C...

4. Something fast. I'm still a PH'er after all wink So something that can truly push you back in your seat and produce a huge grin on your face. Something that could be taken to Santa Pod would be good too.

5. I also like to compete in autosolo events. So I need a vehicle that is capable of entering and competing in such events. The vehicle should also be capable of some track work and to be used on events like Gymkhana's and Sprints. Many events don't allow more than 4 cylinders or forced induction though.

6. Something with a V8. I love the noise and feel I still need the V8 sound track in my life.

7. A four seater. Something you can take a family out in, go on holiday in and fit a baby/child seat in the back should you need too. And as with the daily, it can't be too boring, it's just not me.

Think that's about it. No real limit on the number of cars to meet the criteria above.

Budget = £20,000 for everything.

Give it your best shot, as I'm genuinely interested to see what vehicles people can think of/suggest. smile

Thanks.

If I was rich, certainly. Sadly I'm not frown

But I think diversity an broad motoring enjoyment can be achieved on even a lesser budget, e.g.

-Series III Landy with a V8/Tdi swap (£2k with mods)
-RX-7 (Gen 1 or 2) (£2k with mods)
-VVC powered Rover 100 (£2-3k for a tidy fast one)
-TVR Cerbera (£12k for a AJPV8)
-Lexus LS400 (£1-2k)

Use the Landy to put a suffix plate on the TVR, Rover 100 and Lexus and most people will have no idea how old these vehicles are.

You won't get all of that for 20k. THe classic/interesting car (worthy of displaying at car shows) will prevent that; even if it has 4 seats and a V8 to fulfill other criteria. I'd suggest that you need a decent pushbike for no.2 to keep the budget down.

lol, point taken and one I've considered. Sadly the daily either does 7 miles a day (including picking my partner up from work) or 180 miles a day if I'm on clientsite.

1. Err c.£2k

2. Ford KA £2k

3/4/6. Cerbera 12k

5. Classic Mini/Stripped Ford KA £2k

7. V40 2.0T £1/2k

OK So I picked 2 cars out of my profile but they both do the prescribed jobs quite well.
