only work for head gaskets, or will it seal where coolant pipes are leaking at joins etc?

Oh.

There seems to be loads of good reviews, but perhaps its not the case!

I just have a small coolant leak, cant find where, but its not the rad, water pump or thermostat......its beginning to piss me off.

Well, I have had new everything (thermostat, rad, thermostat housing, water pump, expansion tank) and was hoping the recent drop in level (a cupful over 50 miles) was due to the system settling down.

But on the way to work, I stopped at some lights, and noticed the smallest amount of steam wafting out from by the wipers. Stopped at the next layby, same again as I pulled in, but nothing to see when I opened the bonnet!

Same on the way home, same puff of steam, but again, nothing to see by the time I opened the bonnet (I even RAN round the front to open the bonnet-and I dont run very often lol)

System has been pressure tested and sniff tested, both of which were OK, no problems with head etc. (there has never been any overheating or oil/water mixing).

Well its obviously losing coolant. Small leaks like these can be swines to find. And yes your right, you could just chuck some Radweld or K-Seal in, but its better all round to actually find the leak and then decide how to treat it.
You'll need to be persistant and patient. Small leaks can be easier to find with the age of a torch. Try looking at various parts of your engine bay from different angles and get underneath if you have to. The leak WILL be visible - you just need to find it.

worked very well on my slightly seepy heater matrix. lots of very good reviews, and many 166 owners have used it for the seepy matrix problem, none have had any issues that I can recall, and almost all have been successful

I used it on my 323 that was losing large amounts of coolant a week, not lost any at all in a year, and no other issues with it at all.

It does work but to what degree depends on the size of the leak.

You can get some UV dye to put in which may help identify the leak. Need a UV light too.

My v70 had a tiny water leak - used to top up about a centimetre a week in the expansion bottle - shoved a k-seal in and hasn't been a problem since - I rate it very highly - I've used loads in cars over the years and it has never caused any problems and has always worked

DO I need to empty some coolant out, or just bung it in and it makes its own way from the expansion tank?

It's only a small bottle, just put it in where you would top up the coolant.
