Hi all! I've been lurking on the site for nigh-on three years now, so thought it be best to show m'sen!

Im a 19year old chap with a major interest in cars and bikes ever since I an remember, and my current steed is a 2003 astra 1.8sxi, which as much as I like is a wee bit juicy for my needs (work is 13miles away, gf's is also about 13/14miles away)

SO! Here's the Question you've all been oh so patiently waiting for...
What car shall I buy?

And heres the criteria:
<£1850
>40mpg
not going to be embarrasing to be seen in.
obviously I dont expect to be able to thrash exotica and the like, but the more poke the better smile
and most importantly! Be insurable for less than £1200..

So yeah.. I said you'd be bored didn't I! I know its not the most PH of what cars, but the more money I save in fuel and such goes towards something much more interesting and faster in the next year or two! You know how it is smile

Thanks in advance m'loves!
Matt

With that mileage, and that budget I cant see the need to spend money changing cars to gain what, 5-10mpg?

Forget the poke and forget the being embarrassed and get a bike or a crappy diesel. You can't get anything for that spec and look good, trust me smile And then when you have the money saved you'll be thankful you did it.

how many miles do you do each year?

based on an average 12000 miles each year an extra 5mpg will save you less than a fiver each week, is it worth changing?

I do in the region on 20,000 miles per year. so in my opinion its worthwhile doing, especially as I'm on an apprentice wage as it is (Although a good apprentice wage) The astra does about 300miles to a tank of £55ish, whereas a clio dci (these are what I've been looking at if Im honest) cost similar to fill, but will do 500+ to a tank.. this is where my thinking is smile

If work is only 13 miles away then how do you do 20,000 miles a year? By my rough calculations you do about 15,000 miles privately?

In which case, buy a half-decent road bike and save yourself a small fortune in travel costs.

Citroen AX GT !
Would it be rude to suggest a 1.6 MX5 ?

Ph iPhone thingy doesn't like spelling Citroen in the proper French punctuation

I'm impressed how he's tinted the photos the same colour as the car, and also that his numberplate is almost 'NUDE COX'
