I have been browsing the DVLA website among others but want to find a specific number plate to go o the new car:

E92 ... (dots are my initials)

Otherwise have these plates been released yet? as all sites seem to only go up to 20

You will have a long time to wait. The system alternates between 0 and 5 plus the decade for the third character every March and September, so 92s will be getting released in 31 years and 8 months' time.

I assume youre talking about the old style prefix E reg? ie 1988?
In which case E92 was probably released in 1988. Check this site for the actual plate; If its not been released you can enquire to dvla. http://www.numberplates.com/issued.aspx

He's talking old style registrations, not xxnn xxx style new ones.

E92 xxx was probably released on a car that's been scrapped by now and they don't resurrect numbers.

Your best bet is to find out if E92 *** has been issued, if not ask DVLA to auction it for you to bid on.

Other option is to do what I did and wait for 92** to come up in an auction (or you could ask) and bid/buy that but it may be a lot more.

He wants a prefix style plate not the current style. OP have you rung the DVLA or emailed them?

I e-mailed them a few days ago and in typical dvla fashion i havn't had a response.

That site above is really good, it showed where the other plate i want is, only problem is my brother bought the same plate with different initials for £250 from the DVLA directly but this one is only listed on a specific numberplate site that offer to 'transfer' registrations at 1200 which is quite frankly far too much.

Have a hunt around. You may find it is listed on several sites for several different prices!

Send Jody Davies jody.davies@dvla.gsi.gov.uk and email and she may be able to let you know if a number is available.
That number plate site shows which area of the country and when numbers were issued but if it has not been assigned to a vehicle then it will be available to sell by either live or internet auction.

Try something like this:

http://www.newreg.co.uk/search/search_results/home...

As has been stated the available registrations vary in price from site to site...

I should have read the original post more carefully!

Anyhoo - E92 xxx would have not been on the reservable list from the DVLA and would have been issued on rota. Only 1-20 and then multiples of 10, 100 and repeated digits (eg. 999) could be 'bought'.

Not every E92 *** was issued and the only way to find out what was and was not issued is by asking the DVLA

Definitely, the owner themselves has listed it on eBay, still wants £800 though. I reckon i will have to wait a few months and do everything after the LPG kit has been installed so can at least spend some of those savings.

Plates rarely ever sell on ebay, just look at the 'completed' listings where less than 1 in 100 sell. You should contact the owner and offer him, say, £400 or £500. He'll likely take it...
