Fuel savers....whats inside them?
Discussion
I have a pal thats (IMO stupidly) invested quite a lot of money in a franchise for a particular brand of fuel saver. I was chatting with him the other day and I asked him if he'd ever drilled one open to see whats inside. He hadn't. My point was that inside there is probably some lead or a magnet (the units are comically heavy) and a couple of resistors and that you can probably make them yourself for pennies rather than paying 90 odd quid for them.
Has anyone ever prised one apart or knows a bit about how they work?

I've got one fitted to my daily driver Golf R32. It's so efficient that it actually makes more fuel than I put into the car due to the high number of miles I drive. The more I drive, the more fuel I get. I often have to siphon the extra off and sell it to friends to run their less efficient cars with. Still don't understand why VW didn't fit one as standard.

Out of interest is he making money? Has he recovered franchise fees? If yes to both I would sell them. It's effectiveness as a fuel saver is guaranteed to be zero but if it paid for another holiday a year I'd sell them too.
What would you need a franchise for? It's not like you can't provide something that makes no difference without their help.Motorrad said:
I know exactly how they work, you find an idiot to sell them to and reap a fat profit.
This, although there are probably sufficient idiots around at the moment panicked by the increase in fuel prices to give them a go and make the middleman at least enough to only lose half his investment rather than 90% of it....Edited by r11co on Saturday 22 January 21:41
Whoa, whoa, I think some people are getting a bit stressed here. Maybe you should wear a Q Link Pendant to re-align your energy fields.
Just £224. And according to Bad Science it consists of a small PCB carrying a surface mount resistor, and a coil of copper that isn't connected to the circuit board.

Pushed credibility (and blatant profiteering) just a bit too far....
There are 100's of completely retarded idiots out there, just waiting for you to take their money. It's a gold mine I'll tell thee.
Just look at all these feedbacks from said retards who have spent £10+ on a resistor/potentiometer, a plastic box, some cable ties and some wire... http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFe...
Moral of the story - braindead morons and their money are easily parted.
