I am quite intrigued with Ford's new line of EcoBoost engines. They seem to be doing very well in the states and the new 1.6 EcoBoost has had glowing reviews in both the C-max and new Focus here in the UK. I have just stumbled upon the fact that Ford will be incorporating this EcoBoost technology in a new engine dubbed 'fox'.

This is a 3 - cylinder, 120hp, 50+mpg, 1.0 litre engine!

A Ford employee in the UK at the Ford Research center test drove the C-Max with the new 1.0 3 cyl 120ps 'Fox' engine, some comments from his test drive:

Hi all. I was fortunate enough to have a spin in a new C-max today!
It was a 120ps 5dr fitted with the EcoBoost 1.0l 3 cyl "Fox" Engine. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised, nice linear power delivery, pretty good torque upto and including 5th, 6th was a little lacking but what can I say.

It goes considerably better than my wifes 1.4 petrol Fiesta ( 90 ps apparently ) with just me driving, C-max was loaded with 3 adults!

I liked the EPAS, like Fiesta, very precise and positive, although I didn't play with settings.
Fit and finish was good although it was a prototype, few squeaks and rattles although loaded with plenty instrumentation!

Very nice comfy supportive front leather seats ( can't say about rear, I didn't try, look identical to current ones! )

I've worked on these engines for 2 years now both turbo and n/a, only recently asked for a drive of car fitted with one! Also driven 1.6 ecoboost Focus, very surprised with that to!

Reading the above makes me very excited at the prospect of this engine bolted into a new fiesta. Perfect daily? I think so.

Not really, a 1.2 turbo is a bit overkill unless you want to race it. If it can pull a C-Max OK then a 1.0 will be fine for a fiesta.

A bit like the Daihatsu GTti engine? That was a 993cc 3cyl turbo with 99bhp back in '88 (?)

Was a good engine for a small car, can't remember what mpg I used to get in mine though

Where did you get 1.2 Turbo from? I only saw mention of a new 1.0 120PS engine. Which sounds ideal for Fords smaller cars, provided it's reliable and torquey enough.

Does anybody have any more information on the release date of this engine?

They sound great though...
Really though? Mine certainly doesn't. In fact it's hard to appreciate the acoustics when you're juddering so much that your teeth rattle*.
