Finally had time to work on my car today in colege to sort out the water leak, found out inlet manafold gasket and water pump needed replacing and also timing belt as the pump runs of it took most of the day but really satisfying to get it done. Atleast being a mechanic i dont have to pay out for labour charges and bills only parts. So what have you needed to fix on your car over the winter?

Xenon ballast/igniter on my M3, right pita. After much waiting I've just managed to source the parts and save myself a packet.

I just need to get my friendly indie to fit the parts.

Stupid question coming up (this is one area of "car fixing stuff" that I haven't dabbled in before):

I've bought some of the electrical circuit paint that you can use to repair gaps in a heated rear window, but do I apply it to the inside or outside of the glass? redface The packet doesn't make it clear.

Best part of the job really trade prices, only problem is, is that you work on cars all day and you cant be arsed to work on your own car, luckily enough im in colege this week as im a apprentice so gives me time to do it.

can you not just run your finger over the glass and find which side the raised lines are on????

I have been fixing very little. I have fitted new mats, clips that hold the mats in place, a new driver side window switch.

The garage has been fitting my old tyres and my new refurbished wheels.

Can you explain? I don't really know what you mean.

I recently rebuilt both front calipers with seal kits and pistons. Also gave it a bit of a service with plugs, fuel filter, air filters, engine oil and filter, gear and diff oil change, and a new thermostat.
Still a few jobs to do, it could really do with a pair of front discs and the headlight adjuster rod is broken so the lights are a bit high.
I will get to it soon hopefully.
Maybe after fixing the knackered downpipe and balljoints on my pickup and sorting the running problem with the wifes touring.
Its never ending!

Yeah, exactly. I used to enjoy working on my own car, started doing my apprenticeship, and realised I only enjoyed working on my car.

I am still an apprentice, trying to finish my level 2 but i'm in an awkward place with my observations. I work 5 days a week oddly though.

my nova still runs on a carb and not yet stripped the head out of it to give the valve seats an unleaded petrol conversion, so my plugs spoil everytime it runs rich on the choke when its below freezing outside
