why do they press the button

Nearly every day i come across some prat,im talking about able bodied adults here,that instead of just
looking and waiting for the odd car to pass by and crossing the road, have to press the crossing button.
What is wrong with these people.

I think it's just habit tbh.

I've often thought the same when I've been driving down a perfectly and obviously clear road and spotted someone off in the distance walk up to the crossing and push the button without even looking or thinking.

I do hate these fools.

Single car on the road approaching and they press the button, instead of waiting a few seconds and being ever so slightly safer.

As bad as the fkwits who press the button as an Ambiwlans is approaching on blues & twos - can you really be THAT stupid?

more importantly why do so many people feel the need to cross within spitting distance of a crossing but not use it ,not just able bodied but pensioners that can barely walk think dodging the traffic is a good idea 'kin retards

It's the ones that press the button (on a clear road) before looking, look, then cross straight away that annoy me. They're well on the other side before the next car comes along as the light turns red

I hardly ever press the button. only if the traffic is fairly heavy and fast moving do i ever press it. other then that, if there is a gap i can take to walk across the road I'll wait for it.

Surely if they crossed the road without stopping the traffic at a crossing, and subsequently get hit, any insurance
claim against the driver is going to be compromised.
Most crossings are timed in the region of twenty seconds. Thats not long to wait.

+1, I use the button if I am with my dog or with children, to teach them the safe way (the dog hasn't got the hang of it yet though!) but I will always wait for the green light.

THe only crossing i regularly use where i press the button regardles of traffic is cloaked by bushes on one side, so i can't see cars coming, but they can see a red light.

All other crossings are on busy roads that would be impossible to cross without the little green man.

Surely you would only consider crossing without the assistance of 'the button' when the road would be clear after the car had passed you.

Therefore the car would not need to pointlessly stop and it would be safer as you would not be asking the car to stop with you in it's path.

I'm sure your crystal ball could tell you it's much harder for a car to hit you if you give it a few seconds to pass, so it is heading away from you.

Why not? Setting a good example to children? They feel safer knowing the traffic has a red light?

If the coast is clear enough obviously. But some places have lights placed without good clear view especially with loons that have lead boots. So I press the button rather than wait for a gap that may never appear.

Edit. Or I cannot see far enough for someone doing 60 etc.

The worst are the tts who press the button, then cross when the road is clear and walk off, leaving you stuck at a red light. I was driving home at 2AM the other day and some arsewipe did this on a quiet road, with no cars in sight. Cue me turning up, stuck at his red light as he strolls off. If I had had the roof down I would have shouted "" at him as I drove off into the night.
