When I owned my 1997 Merc a couple of years ago it still seemed on the outiside at least a current car.

It still held it's own against the more modern Mercs.

I was driving behind an X reg Renault Clio the other day and thought, my that does look old.

So how long can a car remain current looking? Does it depend on the marque, or more on the next models
in the series changing?

I thought the very same thing the other day, following a 51 plate Corsa.

I learned to drive in the same car, and at the time it felt super modern and stylish to me.

Following it the other day I thought...my that looks very dated compared with today's Corsas/Clios/Fiestas etc

Where as good design lasts....

The Mk1 TT I think is fairly timeless.
As is the 406 coupe.

I currently run an 11 year old XJ8 and even though the new design it totally different, my car
still has a newness about it. Maybe with the classic look of the XJ being similar for 40 years it
may be too old to go out of fashion.

That's a different way of seeing it, like a fine wine aging well.

I'll have to stick the Fiat Coupe in here, marmite car but just doesn't age badly at all, even the interior looks modern still, as for normal saloons most look old to me but with the exception of the ST220/ST TDCI the last mondeo just looks ancient.

Morgan drivers have no concept of current.

Not true.

Some of their owners have got used to not having to employ a little man running in front with a red flag...
