No V5, VIC in 3 weeks time, can I tax it?

I bought an untaxed Vectra that had been written off whilst in the previous owners care. It needs a VIC check which isn't until 22nd Feb. I have the new keepers little bit of the V5, can I tax it or there is some sort of marker on the system that wont let me until the VIC?

Having a spare few minutes I phoned DVLA, spoke to a very helpful chap and he says yes, I can
tax it before the VIC. Hurrah!
