Another happy VW driver who's DPF failed after a month, then?

Or his injectors all died, and cost a grand to replace? Or their head went porus, and cost of repair was worth more than the car?

Yes, another happy VW owner, I'm sure. smile

Obviously they are popular with fleets because they are unreliable piles of st that cost a lot to run.

Once they are out of warranty (which is not hugely generous), yes, the new ones are.
I suspect our fleet won't be VW when I renew.

Fleets don't run cars out of warranty. Fleet Passats cost little to run, because the drivers spend more time in 1.2 Polos than the Passat they should be driving. smile

Of course they run them out of warranty. Clearly you know nothing about fleets. A lot are 48 month contracts.

We've loads of these on our fleet, as well as similarly engined Skodas etc. and apart from the odd one, there is no noticeable issue. But then what would I know? I only manage 110 cars.

Out of interest, and I'm not trolling, how many oil pump failures have you had on 2.0 TDis? The reason I'm asking is we've had two Passats (55 plate and a 57 plate) both of which have sheared their oil pump drives with around 95,000 miles on the clock. Have we just been unlucky, or are other people suffering it too? It seems VAG recognise the problem as the replacement parts are modified...

I thought it only effected certain engine numbers. Look in the VAG section, there's loads of info floating around on it.

Interestingly, my 56 plate has (apparently) the different oil pump set up to the earlier ones. What was the engine code on your 57 plate?

Thanks. It's BKP.
The 55 plate has long gone so I don't know what that was.

I wonder if they've sorted it for the new common rail engines?

My dad has had 3 passats now, currently on the CC.

I have never heard of anything going wrong. Appart from the last one when the gearbox blew whilst at VW.
But then again it had done 150,000 in 4 years.

The CC sounds like a wheel bearing has gone/going after 6 months/18,000 miles.

So far, none. Maybe we've been lucky. No doubt the character with 390 cars (my cock's bigger than yours) will disagree.

We've had a couple of turbos go on the 2.0tdi but no more than any other make. Suspension gets some hammer and needs replacing frequently but that's the nature of the roads/tracks they travel on, not down to the car.

BTW, 390 "on this site"... are you a fleet manager or a car salesman smile

OK. Thanks for the reply. Maybe it's just one of those things, but our last two Passats have been pretty bad with injector problems and oil pumps. We have a couple of Golfs with the new 2.0 CR engine and touchwood they seem OK so far.

One Superb 2.0TDI had an oil pump go. But, that's the nature of the engine when it's fitted back to front.

On this site. Well, how else can I describe it? It's a large carpark for 390 cars that go out in the morning and come back in the evening. They never have the same drivers, and are driving all day.

Other sites are smaller with a dozen or so cars, used 24/7.
