3rd Car or persuade OH into something else?

Currently have 123d as company car which is coming up for renewal and wife has Mine One.
The 1er is a reasonable compromise for 20k pa and decent enough handling for my A and B road commute. I can't currently think of anything else of a similar lease cost that will be any more fun and still return decent mpg, so considering extending lease by another 12 months until new 1er is launched.
Anyway point of post....I'm getting bored and fancy something fun for weekends and probably commute in summer, and wondering what the options are.
I was considering a bike, but that will be the hardest one to convince the OH on as she thinks I'll kill myself. So perhaps a bike engined kit car, but ideally it would be something my 4 year old son could come in with me when using at weekend and they don't look safe enough.
So I've concluded a VX220 for about £7-8k, drove one years ago and thought it was great.
However it's crossed my mind this morning that I could stick that money into a better car to replace my wife's Mini. She's happy as she gets a better car and I get something different to use at weekends and when I can nick it during the week
Now I reckon the easiest way to convince her would be a better Mini like a JCW as she loves hers, but would I find it different enough to make it a 'fun' car. I like her current one but it's far too slow, whereas I reckon it might be decent with double the power!
Is there anything else I should be considering, and thoughts on JCW Mini compared to something like the VX?
And before anybody says "grow a pair, get the bike" - I know
