Ok .. Someone persuade me not to buy a Tribeca B9 ..
Discussion
Hi..
Been yearning to get rid of my WRX Wagon for a while now , and with all the hastle I've had over winter time, I've decided enough is enough ..
I have been wanting something that's armchair driving , auto , leather , something with 6 ( or maybe even 8
) smooth cylinders and been wanting/yearning to get back in an Outback or Legacy 3.0 H6 Rn. ( had an '07 2.5 a few yrs ago and thoroughly enjoyed it). I only do circa 5k miles a year so economy is not an issue.
Now having seen these come and go very quickly all over the UK ( why are the good ones always waaayyyy down in Devon or Portsmouth?! ) and damn all in Scotland I have fallen for the ugly duckling that is the Tribeca ! Yup think I'm
I have driven 1 of these before an they are a lovely place to sit in , same smooth and silky 3.0 ltr , they are that wee bit different , and to me something like the Starship Enterprise compared to my agricultural Impreza! Costing £31k new they are £12-15k now which to me seem a lot of motor for the money..tho not sure on reliability .
Edited to add that this is an example of the spec I'm looking at.
So I hand it to you , PH collective .. am I mad? Should I just wait for the more run-of-the-mill Leggy/Outback?
Pics to follow.. Cue all the
,
, and
smilies!
Thanks,
Steve

The one positive thing I can say is that I thought they were uglier than that. Still no oil painting but not as bad as I remembered. Other bad things - 23mpg combined, around town will be in the low teens. 245Bhp but 0-60 in 9.7s and top speed of 121mph, I know it's not meant to be a speed machine but sounds pretty sluggish.
I'd go for the Legacy, same engine but 8.4s to 60 and top speed of 147 sounds more like it, fuel consumption more towards 30 as well.

I've liked them ever since it was pointed out that the grille design is a tribute to Subaru's predecessor, the Nakajima Aircraft Co., who made many of the Jap Army's aircraft in WWII, including the Oscar - no post-war guilt for the Nips!
I think they look quite similar to the Porsche cayenne - I would be quite happy to have one

All the above taken on board.
It's good to hear I'm not the only one that likes it .. I think the colour contributes to it's appearance .. Black and Silver look good but that blue just doesn't do it for me .. plus its' smooth power and being that bit more rarer appeals to me.
The main issues I think are going to be fuel economy and RFL .. currently getting approx 26mpg in the Impreza , so 23 might not be too bad , altho the Tribeca is £435 a year compared with £245 a year .
I have to admit the interior really does it for me ..the leather is SO comfy
Will have a long think about it and for all I kno an Outback 3.0 Rn ( pre 06 so cheaper RFL ) with cream leather
just might come on the market a bit closer to home
Any more comments and opinions welcome,
Thanks,
Steve

I don't understand the fuss about the Tribeca. There are far more ugly 4x4s out there, not only from Ssangyong, but also from BMW and Porsche. And, maybe it's me, but I prefer the looks of the Tribeca to Audi's Q fridges.
No idea what it drives like, though....
My thoughts completely! I've seen a few Tribecas in the US when we were there & didn't think they look to bad. A Q7 or X6 looks truly hideous. No idea what it drives like, though....
My concern with the Tribeca would be parts support in the UK given the very few sold.

Just bought one and was in exactly the same position as you with a 08 sti hatch but needed more space and the OH could not live with the image and suspension. To be honest I was not sure about buying it but the car has been a revelation. For an SUV its cornering skills are first class, its quite poossibly the most comfortable car I've ever owned (including my previous legacys and outbacks by the way) its loaded with toys, heavy depreciation means it was a great deal and having run many H6 engines before the mpg is not that far off from them. I've even had some admiring glances which I was not expecting at all - maybe the shape was just ahead of its time a bit - there is alot worse out there now. Just make sure you go for a SE spec. I did not bother with the 7 seats as did not need them but if you do you'll find a dvd player in the back. Go for it.
