So the neighbours across the road recently (well, about 6 months ago now) bought a 'new' 3 series BMW. I say 'new', it's new to them anyway, it's about eight or nine years old. It's also a completely bog standard spec version.

No word of a lie, they hand wash it every other day. He's currently doing it right now. It's raining. Last week he washed it twice. In one day!

It's the futility of it that gets me, we live on the coast, by tomorrow morning it'll be covered in crap again because of the current wind and rain we're having.

Maybe I should have put this in that 'What drives these people?" thread.

This.

Its his P&J, could have been saving for ages to get it. What reaction were you expecting from a car forum?

Seems a bit obsessive but as long as he's doing on his own property (not on the road, or water running off onto the road) then let him be. My pressure washer used to scare the lady next door, but even her husband thought she was a bit paranoid. Perhaps the oft repeated "can you wash mine as well?" when you're walking past would be a friendly ice-breaker!

It's an interesting observation. You're rationalising it by saying it's futile, the car will be dirty again and even when it's clean it'll still be old and crap. He's probably rationalising it by saying he's looking after it and preserving the value of it.

He doesn't have a drive, he's doing it on the road. I rarely see him driving it, his wife is always in it!

I'm not maoning, little work to do right now so I'm sat watching the world go by.

Thing is, he doesn't even do that good a job, it's covered in streaks now!

Twice a day is a bit mental. Then again, not sure why anyone washes their car. The dealership will do it when you buy it; just give it another wash when you sell it.

Ok, I am being a bit of a hypocrite; I do wash mine a fair bit. I mean, it looks like mine will be getting its free wash today judging from the cloud cover... thumbup

So you're having a pop at a bloke who is outside most days slaving over his car, while you're sitting there, the curtain twitcher, complaining about other people's activities while in front of the internets?

Maybe if you get outside and clean your car too, you might make a friend..

They may be polished so brake dust will ruin them pretty quickly

What color is the BMW, if black maybe he notices the dirt more, silver should last a week or 3 before washing.

That depends on your superstition. I pay some polish blokes to wash my car, they do a much better job in 10 minutes than I would in 10 hours.
