I was wondering, lots of single pot veteran cars, lots of twin pots, like the 2CV, quite a number of triples including some modern ish small cars like the Charade and Corsa, oodles of dull 4 bangers, a smattering of VAG and Volvo 5 jug lumps, BMW and Jaguar over the decades have the 6 inline sewn up.

So is there a 7 pot?

It would be a very long engine.

so does a 5 pot.
A 5-pot is the longest that can be easily squeezed into a FWD transverse layout, so i can see its merits.

And when was the last time someone put one of them in a production car? Not exactly common these days.

I'd imagine a straight eight is a damned slight easier to balance, too.

In the 70s i think .. like to see them try the same with a modern 6-speed box in a normal width car.

S80 uses a transverse I6, The T6 was a tight package, but did mean using the worlds smallest (at the time) 4 speed auto that couldn't really handle the torque.

I know that the new Volvo 3.2 S6 was 1mm longer than the outgoing S5.
