M25-Pipes in a field at Godstone

Now, I've been going round the M25 for #* years and every time I go past the Godstone junction the Charcon pipes left upturned in the pasture/field adjacent to the anti clockwise carriageway catch my eye. Anyone know what they're for? They are just placed randomly but must serve a purpose, other than leaving passing motorists confused.
