I hate going to garages. Took daughter's car in this morning and picked up a courtesy car. Thankfully stopped at first petrol station about 5 miles away (how do they keep courtesy cars so empty) and was completey baffled by why the key wouldn't go back into the ignition.

Was thinking I'd have to call the garage and it suddenly clicked that I was using the key from her car. At the same time my mobile rang with the garage telling me I hadn't left the key.

No hint of an apology when I went back. OK, I should have left it, but shouldn't they have thought to take it off me? I think they do it on purpose to try make you feel stupid (worked) and put you on the back foot. furious

I'm going to be honest here.

That is a rubbish, frightfully poor attempt at passing off your mistake on to someone else. smile

You gave them a car but not the key. I'm not sure how many other ways there are of describing your mistake hehe

Its not uncommon.. But fairs fair, we should 100% remember to ask for it, its quite natural to put your key back in your pocket and think you've not got it.

And about the loan cars, trust me. We start with a full tank, and each and every time it will not be filled back up, its not worth it. We're not doing free loan cars and free petrol for you too. You'd need to fuel your own car, so fuel that one. You'll do 30 miles, put a fiver in.. More miles, more fuel. Some you win, some you lose. We check fuel before the car goes, and check it the next morning and 6/7 times out of ten its not had any fuel put back in it.

So its the previous customers fault you haven't got any fuel.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Last time I took my car in, the service guy said that it does happen a lot, and the customer always gets upset because the car hasn't been touched, even though the garage tried calling & left messages.

If that is your attitude I would imagine garages hate you going there too.

They don't, simply put customers use as much as they can get away with and leave them on vapours. Did you bring it back full? Thought not.

When I put my car in for its MOT, the heaving grease-monkey neglected to tell me I had a dentist appointment that afternoon and I ended up missing it. Where DO they get these people? Thatcher's Britain.

Yesterday, I gave a woman her keys back when I had taken payment, she was messing around with her purse etc.

Walked out to her car.. Came back in.

"Er my keys? Where are they?"
"I've just given them to you.."
"No you haven't. You must have them!"
"I put them in your hand before you went."
"No, its not here. Find them."

She had them in her bag, but was positive I was lying. No apology.

Is this a joke? You were delivering your (daughters) car to them- that includes the key! If you looked stupid it was nobody elses fault other than your own.

Of course you should - it's part of the handover process.

I saw the car being driven in by a staff member arriving for work. I don't have a problem with the car being low and putting fuel in it, but does it need to be on zero miles, especially in a place where the nearest petrol station is 5 miles away?

A SEAT dealer gave me a chitty for £10 for fuel once when the courtesy car was empty - smart move on their part as that little gesture makes me think how wonderful they must be.
