This actually made it to the front page of my local paper

http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/8847666....

Complete overkill by the police & newspaper??

They should have just paid a farmer £20 to tow them out!

"Two helicopters, 26 mountain rescue volunteers and two police patrols had to be deployed after they got lost and stuck."

Trying to DRIVE up Darwen Tower at night. Should have left them to it.

No green lanes there either.

Surely the real idiots were the people that ordered the 'rescue'? Hardly a life threatening situation.

Which would be fair, except the emergency services seems to have gone 'nuclear' and dispatched everything they could get their hands on. So in this particular case, I definitely don't think the entire cost should be passed on to the idiots - even if it could be.

It's really infuriating when numbnuts such as these go where they're not supposed to. We've lost thousands of miles of drivable lanes over the years due to reactions to idiotic behaviour. It won't be long until there's a blanket ban on such activities and it will all be the fault of these types. The walkers and greenies love this sort news story to further their cause.

The rules are quite simple, if you're not allowed to drive there, then you don't drive there. If you are allowed to drive there but the track is in a poor state, you don't drive there.

You're joking right?

The H1 is ok offroad but far to wide to be useable in most offroading situation in the UK.
The H2 and H3 aren't offroaders.

And ON road?

It is all very well being a total monster off road, but a bit of a bugger if you can't actually get to the bottom of your own road because it is the width of a Californian ego.

Bit of quality hands on training for all involved I'd say. Looks like iphone maps are sheite from the sound of it, should have taken a dedicated handheld GPS.
