Well after changing the disks and pads my my car, I left the old disks (4) carefully lent against the side of my porch at the front of the house with the intention of taking them down the workshop the next day. Was cold tired and had enough.

Now apart from possibly peing a little pikey (having old car parts on the drive) I thought nothing more of it.

Next day the wife phones me to say she's heard a noise at the front of the house and just seen a guy putting the last disk into his boot. Apparently he saw her, looked at her for a sec, then just drove off. She said it was an old silver aporty(ish) car (looked crap to her)

Now as it happens I was probably going to get the rag and bone man to take them, but it really made me livid that someone actually stole them from my drive!

Theiving scum!!

If anyone on here knows anyone who has just aquired a set of used Focus ST disks, thell them from me I hope they crack...and they crash...and it really, really hurts...a lot!

Presumably a mobile pikey who will weigh them in, rather than intending to use them.

Still no less cheeky of course.

Edited to add - keep your dags out of sight for a while, he might be back.

Yep any scrap metal, exhausts, batteries, I leave at top of the drive - gone at the end of the day smile

A few years ago whilst changing the exhaust system I had to nip to local motor factors for a replacement clip - while away for half an hour the aluminium undertray I'd left propped against the wall and the cat wink disappeared - £400 to replace, wasn't a very happy chap - so very careful what I now leave on the drive.

I removed a steel bath a few years ago, and left that on my drive. That was gone within 30 minutes. I was only going to scrap it anyway but it's not the point! I was rather annoyed.

Had the same sort of thing happen with several rusty discs/metal offcuts that I was going to take down the tip in a couple of weeks.
A guy knocked the door to ask if he could have them, which I thought was very polite, rather than just stealing them. smile

The scrap man round my way thinks that if it's metal and not stuck to something its his, even if its in your garden/yard.

The feckers still drive around looking over peoples back yard walls, yes I live in the 50s, and just take what they want.

A couple of years ago I was fitting a set of Spax adjustables to my car when the local pikeys came round. They asked if I'd be long and politely waited until I'd finished and took my old struts and springs away! Didn't mind as they were nice enough lads to chat with. Not a bad service as it saved me a trip to the local tip.

I was taking an cupboard / unit type thingy to the dump. Forgot something so left it down next to my open boot whilst I popped upstairs and returned a couple of mins later to see a woman scarpering down the road with it. Result - no need to go to the dump after all!

I'm struggling to see what the problem is, a man stole something you were going to throw away. He's saved you time, effort and possibly money.

If only the council could empty my bin for free.

I might have done this yesterday with a water cooler... it no longer cools water and so needed to get rid of it, so carefully placed outside (in the pissing rain) and went off to get some cold medication... came back and can only assume that due to it being made of shiny metal (brushed aluminium) it was gone in 5 mins...

Excellent...

Though I have to warn anyone working on my property that if the work outside and bring it in that any deliveries/tools they leave outside and are nicked are their responsibility to replace.

Hell someone even took my old stter that still had sewage in it after 20mins...

Not the point at all. He didnt know they were going to be thrown out.

Exactly when did it become acceptable to go onto someone elses property and just take something?

It's the act of stealing 'something' from me, not what he's stolen.

Yes, in the long run he actually did me a favour. But in the short term, he's walked up my drive, between my cars and taken stuff belonging to me whilst my wife was in the house.

Just waiting to see one of the cars being taken one day and someone to say, well you did just leave it on your drive, what was I to think?

As in a previous reply...if you think it's there for taking, knock and ask, that's the decent thing to do!

I think some of this is more a 'mis understanding' than theft.

In recent years with the price of scrap 95% of people know the scrap men tour around and are happy for them to have it as it saves a trip to the tip.

If you want to get rid of scrap you leave it on the end of your drive.

However the 5% unaware of this think stuff is being stolen (technically they are right)

A mate of mine collected a pick up full of metal when clearing his garage, copper, alloy and steel after a day of cleaning, separating and queuing to weigh it in he got £100.

They are welcome to mine.

Green wheelie bin got nicked once. Wonder what for?!

Old chap asked if he could have the old cooker left outside the house, no problem with that
