Selling my car and just had an email stating "Let me know if this posting is up for sale. And get back to me with the firm price"....the name on the email is Kent Janet (and no its not Janet Kent).

Email address is a Gmail one (as is mine), no phone number being asked to call or anything though (eg you actually call a premium number).

Yep, reply and see what the next one says - does sound rather fishy on the face of it though.....

The phrase 'firm price' would be enough for me to ignore it.

Once you're sure it's a scam, and they can't do anything with you're e-mail address, than have some fun with them. See if you get them to do a bit of travelling around to different meeting points.

True, if it is a scam the Tcensoreders need to learn how to behave. Keep us updated! And no one is called Kent Janet unless it's a casual hookups site wink

You are selling a posting? What is a posting?

It's as scammy as a fox what used to be Professor of Scamming at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Scamming.

Ha, me too, my one is called mercy, samuel and he's posting me a cheque for the 'last price' of £12850, without even seeing the car! He needs my full name and address, so his agent can raise the cheque.
I'm so tempted to keep this going, I'd enjoy meeting this tool.

He's back...

Am not around for now and do not want to miss the car, that is why I
want to send you the cheque for the payment and to secure the car, once
cheque clears in your account, the shipping company will come for pick
up at your location, can you send me the details for payment today.

I had a car up at £3495 (which was plenty) and received several of these. Told one the price was wrong and should be £8495 - he still agreed to buy and wanted my paypal details!!

Total scam!

Do you really think scammers actually turn up for the car??

Just tell him you'd gladly wait until he's back in the Country. You're in no rush.

Hey I got as far as the cheque arriving. They sent me a cheque for £11k for a £7.5k car. I asked what the rest is for and of course its for "delivery" as with all these scams. Still haven't worked out the "gotcha" yet. Surely either the cheque clears or it doesn't. Anyone know how this plays out?

"Cleared" cheques (and bankers drafts) can be called back by the issueing bank.

You will bank the cheque, and as requested send the excess to the scammers. Their cheque will bounce, yours won't.

I reckon what will happen is you pay this 'fake' cheque in, and they try to convince you to pay back the 'accidental overpayment' before the bank contacts you to say the cheque has bounced.

I know someone called Kent and someone called Janet but I'd sell a car to neither. But no, obviously don't reply to that email.
