More Details: New Gumpert Tornante

Gumpert reveals a little more about its new road-biased 'touring' model

We’ve been hearing whispers for a while now that Gumpert is due to unveil an all-new second model, called the Tornante, at the forthcoming Geneva motor show.

Now, the German supercar maker has revealed a little more about its plans for a second model, which has been styled by Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera.

The Tornante, so far revealed only in this blurry teaser pic, will only be a styling buck at Geneva, but is expected to hit the road in 2012, adding “elegance, space and comfort to a package rooted in motorsports and competition engineering” (or so says Gumpert).

The 4.2-litre twin-turbo V8 engine will develop around 690bhp in what Gumpert describes coyly as ‘basic’ trim and is derived from the Apollo supercar. The all-round double-wishbone suspension is also derived form the Apollo, but has been “adjusted to the requirements of the Fast Touring mission profile”.

My god that name is horrible both the company and the car! The picture looks a lot better than the old one though but I reserve judgement until the real pictures.

Nice to see them successful enough to add another to the line up though.

Should rename it to be honest. Looks okay so far, should be pretty quick too.

690hp, yeah I think they have bloody quick covered there.

The front looks like a reserved version of the Apollo which I loved for being so radical. Looks like this is still going to be a little outlandish compared to most.

No doubt the slightly more timid nature (yet still different) of this car will get the same 'Borrriiinnggg' from the same camp that label the MP4 dull. Or of course insulted for being too different rolleyes

The last one grew on me, and this one looks ok too.

Is it another "Will drive upside down in a tunnel" car, or just a "normal" supercar?

From what i can see it looks great to me, and its not the usual crop or the strangely vile offerings from Pagani.

Aye, I quite liked the old Gumpert, mad car and it stood out in the super/hyper car arena.

I loved the ordi looks of the Apollo, and the nice alcantara interior.

this one is different so it seems, very curious about it.

there is something inherently evil about Gumpert's designs which is strangely appealing, they're totally different from everything else out there, more power to them

Gullwing or dihedral doors. Either is good. No-one wants normal doors on a hypercar.

Bring back Z1 style vanishing doors.

I hope this is good, I quite liked the last one, yes it was no looker but it was not exactly shy about it, bold and making a statement I like that.

There is no reason to rename it. Forget our narrow-minded national point of view. Tornante is italian for curve or bend. Capito? Or has anyone suggested to rename the Aston Virage?

Looks pretty good to me and if you squint there is more than a hint of Audi R8 IMO.

Has Gumpert actually raced the Apollo in any racing series? Just wondering, and I do love them, bonkers cars. Never got the whole part about them being "sooo ugly". Is a Caparo, Zonda, or Koeniggsegg pretty? I just like them because they put performance first, and have a completely unique look.
